Kort testrapport OnePlus 6 Smartphone

Superb for the sixth time. OnePlus sticks to its high release rate, releasing the successor of the OnePlus 5T after just 6 months: The OnePlus 6. The Smartphone now has a new SoC, a new glass back, a notch and the cameras are supposed to have been improved as well. In our review, we find out whether or not a quick switch is worth it.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 236 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 236 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 236 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 53 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8813 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

De OnePlus 6 is een erg hoge kwaliteit smartphone, uitgerust met high-end features voor een fantastische prijs/prestatie-verhouding. De lagere prijs is echter geen toeval: OnePlus negeert het VR-vlak compleet, wat terug te zien is in de gebruikte beeldscherm technologie, waar de FHD+ resolutie voldoende moet zijn. Er lijken in het algemeen niet veel voordelen te zijn aan het paneel, de nok is puur een kewestie van smaak. We hadden graag iets vergelijkbaars gezien als Apple's True-Tone beeldscherm of een 120 Hz paneel. Het afscheid van het unibody aluminium behuizing volgt ook een trend, maar geeft de OnePlus smartphone nog geen draadloos opladen mogelijkheden. Ook had er een betere overdrachtssnelheid gebruikt kunnen worden voor andere features zoals video output of desktop modus, maar op USB 2.0 zal dat niet gaan.

OnePlus vertrouwd in plaats daarvan op zijn kernwaarden voor een smartphone en rust zijn nieuwste smartphone uit met meer snelheid, grotere en snellere opslag, up-to-date software en een goede camera. Echter zijn de verbeteringen op deze vlakken ten opzichte van de voorganger minimaal. Dat is niet geheel verrassend omdat de OnePlus 5T het hier al erg goed deed. Ook is de smartphone uitgerust met een bliksemsnelle snellaad technologie, die we al kennen van de OnePlus 5T, maar die niet langer Dash Charge genoemd wordt (vanwege licentie conflicten).

OnePlus produceert wederin een uitstekende smartphone. Enkele high-end leukigheden blijven achterwege, waardoor de OnePlus 6 hoge prestaties kan leveren voor een lage prijs.

Samenvattend, levert OnePlus weer een erg goede smartphone. Maar de concurrentie op dit gebied neemt toe. De Honor 10 met zijn aggressieve prijs (vanaf € 399) dingt mee en ook de binnenkort beschikbare Asus ZenFone 5z en de Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S doen het goed in deze klasse qua technologie/prijs verhouding.
