Kort testrapport Huawei P40 Pro Plus Smartphone: Topmodel met 100x Zoom

Alles uit de kast. De Huawei P40 Pro Plus is het vlaggenschip van de P40-serie. Aan onze hoge verwachtingen werd niet alleen voldaan door het prijskaartje van 1399 euro. De smartphone zal waarschijnlijk vooral fotografieliefhebbers aanspreken, omdat ze een verbeterde camera-uitrusting krijgen met 100x digitale zoom bovenop de al uitstekende camerafuncties van de P40 Pro.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 367.6 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 367.6 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 367.6 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17893 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De verschillen tussen hen zijn echter zo klein dat het uitgeven van 1399 euro aan het vlaggenschip P40 misschien niet de beste keuze is, vooral gezien het feit dat de P40 Pro hetzelfde werk doet voor ongeveer 999 euro.

Hoewel de Huawei P40 Pro Plus een geweldige smartphone is, staat hij voor drie uitdagingen: er zijn geen Google-services, hij is erg duur en hij is bijna identiek aan de P40 Pro.

100x digitale zoom en 10x optische zoom zijn duidelijke voordelen van de P40 Pro Plus. Dat gezegd hebbende, zullen maar een paar gebruikers zich beperkt voelen door de 50x digitale zoom van de P40 Pro. De overige verschillen qua features maken de hogere prijs zeker niet goed: dubbel zoveel opslagruimte, sneller draadloos opladen en een keramische achterkant in plaats van een glazen achterkant.

 

De P40 Pro Plus had niet veel keus als het gaat om het ontbreken van Google-services. Toch diskwalificeert dit nadeel de smartphone voor gebruikers die erop vertrouwen. De Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra is het eerste alternatief dat in je opkomt: het basismodel is aanzienlijk goedkoper dan de P40 Pro Plus en wordt geleverd met Google-services, 5G en dezelfde 100x zoomoptie.
