Kort testrapport Huawei P40 Lite Smartphone: Goed zelfs zonder Google Services

Moed om zonder te doen. De Huawei P40 Lite is de meest betaalbare smartphone in de nieuwe P40-reeks. Met zijn 6,4-inch display, de octa-core Kirin 810 SoC, 128 GB opslag en een 48-MP viercamerasysteem, concurreert hij in het fel omstreden middensegment. Slechts één ding ontbreekt: er is geen Google Play en geen andere Google-services. Onze test laat zien hoe goed de P40 Lite het ondanks dit gebrek doet.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18312 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (24.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Samenvatting – De Huawei P40 Lite is in een lastige positie

Een goed scherm, veel opslagruimte, een lange batterijduur, Android 10 en verrassend veel prestaties - of kortom, de Huawei P40 Lite is een goede middenklasse smartphone. De officiële adviesprijs van €299 is ook redelijk en werd tijdens onze test zelfs al aanzienlijk onderschreven door verschillende online winkels.

Hoewel de Huawei P40 Lite bijna alles biedt wat een goede middenklasse smartphone nodig heeft, is het ontbreken van Google Services een duidelijk nadeel.

Het zou allemaal heel goed kunnen zijn, ware het niet dat er geen Google-services zijn en dus ook de ontbrekende Google Play Store. Hoewel Huawei zich zichtbaar inspant om deze kloof te dichten met zijn eigen AppGallery-app store en de AppSearch, kan het aanbod die van de Google Store momenteel niet bijhouden. Het enige dat overblijft is dus te hopen dat het aanbod in de loop van de tijd met een behoorlijke hoeveelheid zal toenemen.

 

Er is nog een sprankje hoop: ondertussen heeft Google toestemming gevraagd aan de Amerikaanse regering om Huawei haar diensten te kunnen blijven leveren. We wachten dus op een beslissing.
