Deugd geboren uit noodzaak? Huawei heeft de P30 Lite opnieuw uitgebracht als de New Edition, die veel opslagruimte biedt in vergelijking met andere apparaten in zijn prijsklasse en een camera aan de voorkant heeft met een paar extra megapixels. In dit korte testrapport zullen we zien of dit recept nog steeds een up-to-date smartphone oplevert.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 893 Hz ≤ 10 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 893 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 10 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 893 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18270 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 34 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (24.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 63 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (39.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Met de P30 Lite New Edition heeft Huawei het wiel niet opnieuw uitgevonden en in plaats daarvan een solide update uitgebracht die waarschijnlijk uit noodzaak is geboren. Huawei verontschuldigt zich voor het vertrouwde, maar op geen enkele manier verouderde ontwerp met een geheugenconfiguratie die bijna ongehoord is voor deze prijsklasse. Zijn voorganger bood al een paar duidelijke voordelen: de fatsoenlijke camera's zijn teruggekeerd en hoewel de hogere resolutie van de camera aan de voorkant geen verschil maakt tijdens dagelijks gebruik, is het nog steeds prettig om te hebben. Verdere voordelen zijn de bouwkwaliteit, de responsieve vingerafdruksensor aan de achterkant en het goede IPS-paneel.

Qua prestaties is er niet veel veranderd, afgezien van de snelle opslag: hoewel het besturingssysteem relatief soepel op de SoC werkt, is de smartphone over het algemeen iets langzamer in vergelijking met andere in zijn prijsklasse. Dit wordt nog verergerd door het feit dat de processor onder belasting niet optimaal presteert. Evenzo zijn de trage Wi-Fi module en het lage aantal ondersteunde LTE-frequenties een bron van ergernis.

Hoewel P30 Lite New Edition van Huawei modernere componenten zou kunnen gebruiken, maakt de fabrikant dit goed met veel opslag en een strak ontwerp.

Bovendien verwijst Bluetooth-versie 4.2 naar het feit dat het ontwerp van de telefoon enigszins gedateerd is, omdat Huawei waarschijnlijk modernere componenten voor zijn huidige middenklasse smartphone zou hebben gebruikt, ware het niet voor het handelsgeschil.

Het resultaat is een solide middenklasse smartphone, die gebruikers met een behoefte aan veel opslag zou moeten aanspreken. Er moet echter rekening worden gehouden met de hierboven genoemde tekortkomingen.
