Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 58 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 5559 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 27 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (26.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Honor 8 Pro is een aantrekkelijke smartphone met uitstekende systeemprestaties. Vergeleken met de concurrerende topmodellen, schiet de Honor 8 ondanks 6 GB RAM soms tekort.

De Honor 8 Pro biedt helaas niet de uitstekende prijs/prestaties verhouding die we van Honor gewend zijn. Modellen van afgelopen jaar zoals de Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge bieden soms een beter pakket voor minder geld, in acht genomen dat die apparaten al ver zijn gezakt in prijs.

Eigenschappen zoals Bluetooth 4.2 in plaats van 5.0, de relatief zwakke GPU, een voorste camera zonder autofocus en de USB 2.0 standaard plaatsen de Honor 8 Pro achter huidige topmodellen van andere fabrikanten. Daarnaast kan de batterij niet draadloos worden opgeladen en is het apparaat niet stof- en waterbestendig volgens de IP standaard. De beeldschermranden zijn relatief dik en de ratio van het beeldscherm met de rest van de behuizing is anno 2017 tamelijk inefficiënt.

Alles bij elkaar is de Honor 8 Pro een zeer succesvolle smartphone en aanbevolen alternatief voor de Huawei P10 apparaten. Echter, in onze ogen is het geen kansmaker voor een podiumplaats onder de smartphones.

Hoe dan ook, Huawei's beslissing om te bezuinigen op hardware laat een slechte indruk achter - of alle kopers van de Honor 8 Pro de voordelen van moderne UFS-2.1 opslag zullen merken blijft echter twijfelachtig.
