AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D desktop CPU test: Sneller dan een Core i9-13900K dankzij 3D V-Cache en slechts 8 cores

De perfecte CPU voor gaming?

De AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D heeft 8 cores en 16 threads, wat betekent dat hij qua aantal cores net achterblijft bij de topmodellen. Maar in onze test liet de 8-core component zien dat hij niet onderschat moet worden. In deze review vergelijken we zijn prestaties met die van zijn eigen concurrenten en die van zijn rivalen van Intel.

De AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D is nu AMD's derde processor op basis van AM 5 met 3D V-Sync - na beide Ryzen 9-modellen (AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3Den AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D). Samen met de twee grotere modellen werd de native 8-core processor afgelopen januari gepresenteerd op CES in Las Vegas. Hoewel, je moest nog een hele tijd wachten tot het component uiteindelijk op 6 april 2023 op de markt werd gebracht.

We hebben al getest de AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D grondig getest en waren onder de indruk van de geweldige prestaties en het lage energieverbruik. We zullen zien hoe goed de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D het doet in vergelijking. Over het algemeen zou de 3D V-Cache moeten resulteren in betere prestaties, wat betekent dat deAMD Ryzen 7 5800X3Dgebaseerd op AM4 nog steeds populair zou moeten zijn. De interne opbouw is echter anders in vergelijking met beide Ryzen 9 modellen die deze 3D V-Cache hebben. De AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D heeft slechts één CCD met 8 cores inclusief snelle cache, en de Ryzen 9 modellen hebben op hun beurt twee CCD's met respectievelijk 6 en 8 CPU cores. Maar slechts één van de CCD's is uitgerust met de 3D V-Cache, terwijl de andere CCD bekend is van deAMD Ryzen 9 7950X. Een CCD is de eigenlijke CPU-die onder de hitteverspreider, die maximaal acht cores combineert.

De AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D heeft, net als alle processors uit de Ryzen 7000-serie, socket AM5 (1.718 contacten) nodig. Upgraden van een Ryzen uit de 5000-serie of ouder betekent dat je een nieuw moederbord moet kopen en moet investeren in nieuw RAM. Wat betreft het stroomverbruik meldt de fabrikant een TDP van 120 watt. Het maximale stroomverbruik is echter beperkt tot 162 watt door de PPT (Package Power Tracking).

Testomstandigheden

We hebben alle prestatietests uitgevoerd met het energieprofiel "Hoogste prestatie". We zijn hier alleen van afgeweken tijdens de metingen van het stroomverbruik. Een DeepCool LT360 AiO oplossing werd gebruikt als koelunit in deze test. Volgens de fabrikant is dit een van de compatibele koelunits voor de AMD Ryzen 7000 processors. Je zit dus aan de veilige kant als je deze gebruikt, zodat je de specificaties van de fabrikant niet overtreedt.

Processorbenchmarks - Een gemiddelde Ryzen 7 7800X3D

Voordat we naar de gaming benchmarks kijken, werpen we eerst een blik op de pure CPU-prestaties van de processor. Met behulp van verschillende benchmarks zagen we dat de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D ongeveer net zo goed presteerde als eenAMD Ryzen 9 5950X. In vergelijking met Intel was dit genoeg om deAMD Ryzen 9 5950X. Op dit punt willen we herhalen dat de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D een 8-core processor is. Dit betekent dat hij aanzienlijk slechter presteert in de multi-thread benchmarks dan veel van zijn concurrenten.

Vergeleken met de AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D lag de kleinere Ryzen 7 7800X3D ongeveer 24 procent achter. In dit stadium deed de Intel Core i9-13900K het het beste, met één procentpunt beter dan het eerdere topmodel van AMD.

Met behulp van de Cinebench R15 Multi Loop kunnen we op dit moment zien dat het DeepCool koelsysteem voldoende is om de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D betrouwbaar te koelen. Voor alle duidelijkheid moeten we opmerken dat alle tests zijn uitgevoerd met gesloten behuizing. De luchtcirculatie in de Lian Li O11 Dynamic was niet de beste in ons testsysteem, omdat er geen ventilatoren waren geïnstalleerd die toegang hadden tot verse lucht.

De synthetische applicatiebenchmarks van de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D zien er al iets beter uit dan de CPU-benchmarks. Hij kwam niet ver achter deIntel Core i5-13600Ken deAMD Ryzen 9 5950Xwas duidelijk in staat om beter te presteren.

Gamingbenchmarks - Echt snel voor slechts 8 cores

Tijdens onze gamingtests merkten we dat de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D uitblonk in het uitvoeren van zijn belangrijkste taak. De 8-core processor was zelfs in staat om het eigen vlaggenschip van de eerste plaats te stoten, waardoor het naar de tweede plaats zakte. Natuurlijk is de voorsprong minimaal en niet merkbaar in dagelijks gebruik - maar als het aankomt op het kronen van de koning van de prestaties, moeten we het houden bij pure cijfers. Ons testexemplaar won de vergelijking met deIntel Core i9-13900Kvrij gemakkelijk en nam een voorsprong van 13 procentpunten.

De AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D worstelde soms met problemen met de verdeling van de belasting tussen de twee CCD's in sommige van de games die we testten, omdat, zoals we weten, slechts één CCD van de 16-core component is uitgerust met de 3D-V cache. De AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D heeft dit probleem niet, wat waarschijnlijk de reden is dat deze iets betere gamingprestaties levert. Dankzij de CPU benchmarks kunnen we ons testexemplaar vergelijken met een Intel Core i7-12700 in dit stadium. Deze was eerder op gelijke hoogte met de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, maar nu kunnen we een verschil van ruim 30 procent aantonen.

In combinatie met de Palit GeForce RTX 4090 GameRock OC biedt het AM5-platform op basis van de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D momenteel de beste combinatie als het aankomt op puur gamen. Het overzicht van alle games die we hebben getest met dit platform laat zien dat ze op dit moment allemaal soepel speelbaar zijn in 2.160p met maximale details. In principe is dit ook mogelijk met een Intel Core i9-13900K of een AMD Ryzen 9 7590X3D. Voor deze twee moet je echter meer betalen.

Energieverbruik - Zuinig, maar goede luchtstroom is een must

Alle X3D-processors uit de 7000-serie zijn beperkt tot een maximaal energieverbruik van 162 watt (PPT). Dat geldt dus ook voor onze AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. In idle-modus noteerden we geen recordwaarden bij 120 watt, maar in vergelijking met deAMD Ryzen 9 7950X3Dwaren onze gemeten waarden bijna identiek. Tijdens het gamen noteerden we een gemiddelde van 497 watt tijdens onze Witcher 3 game scène. Dit betekent dat ons testsysteem ongeveer op hetzelfde niveau zit als een systeem gebaseerd op eenIntel Core i5-13400. Tijdens onze Prime95-stresstest was het systeem op basis van een AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D eigenlijk het zuinigst. De mediaanwaarde was slechts 218 watt.

Voor onze metingen onder belasting moet je rekening houden met het energieverbruik van de grafische kaart. DePalit GeForce RTX 4090 GameRock OCverbruikt alleen al 450 watt.

We noteerden vrij hoge temperaturen als gevolg van de slechte koeling van de behuizing. In dit worst-case scenario raakte de AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D zijn thermische limiet en moest hij gas geven. Om onze metingen niet te vervalsen, hebben we deze test niet uitgevoerd met de behuizing open. We hebben het zijdeel verwijderd, waardoor de CPU-temperaturen vrij snel daalden naar onkritische waarden. Een behuizing met goede luchtcirculatie koelt de 8-core processor goed.
