Schenker XMG Ultra 17 (Clevo X170KM-G) in review: Massieve krachtpatser met weelderige uitrusting

Visueel is het 2021 model van de XMG Ultra 17 niet veranderd ten opzichte van zijnVoorganger. Vernieuwingen zijn te vinden aan de technische kant. Rocket Lake processoren (Comet Lake CPU's zijn nog steeds beschikbaar) en Ampere GPU's worden nu gebruikt. In plaats van één Thunderbolt 3-sleuf worden twee Thunderbolt 4/USB 4-sleuven gebruikt. Concurrenten zijn apparaten zoals de MSI GT76 Titanium DT 10SGS, de Alienware m17 R4 en de Asus Strix Scar 17 G732LXS.

Hoewel het matte 17,3-inch scherm (1.920 x 1.080 pixels) een goed contrast levert (1.391:1), voldoet de helderheid (299,3 cd/m²) nauwelijks aan de doelstelling (> 300 cd/m²). Het 300 Hz paneel biedt korte responstijden en vertoont geen PWM-flikkering

Het beeldscherm ondersteunt Nvidia's G-Sync technologie. Hiermee worden de verversingsfrequenties van het beeldscherm en de GPU dynamisch op elkaar afgestemd. Dit moet zorgen voor een zo vloeiend mogelijk beeld - vooral bij computerspellen.

Het scherm vertoont reeds bij aflevering een goede kleurweergave en voldoet aan de doelstelling met een afwijking van iets minder dan 2 (Delta E minder dan 3). Het heeft geen last van een blauwzweem. Een kalibratie zorgt voor verbeteringen: De kleurafwijking daalt tot 1,34 en de grijstinten worden evenwichtiger weergegeven. Het beeldscherm kan de AdobeRGB (72%) en sRGB (93%) kleurruimten niet volledig reproduceren

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (38.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9672 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 151500) Hz waargenomen.

Het kijkhoekstabiele IPS-paneel kan vanuit elke positie worden afgelezen. Het is heel goed mogelijk om het display buiten af te lezen als de zon niet te fel schijnt

Testomstandigheden

Het voorgeïnstalleerde Control Center maakt het onder andere mogelijk om een prestatieprofiel te selecteren. We voerden onze 3D tests uit met een actief "Prestatiemodus" profiel en automatische ventilatorregeling. We gebruikten het "Entertainment Mode" profiel voor de inactieve en batterij testen.

 

Processor

De Core-i9-11900Kachtkernige processor (Rocket Lake) werkt met een basisklok van 3,5 GHz. De klok kan via Turbo worden verhoogd tot 4,8 GHz (acht kernen) tot 5,3 GHz (single core). Hyperthreading (twee threads per core) wordt ondersteund. Dankzij de vrije multiplier kan de processor vrij gemakkelijk worden overklokt. De CPU zit in een socket en kan dus worden verwisseld.

De CPU-tests van de Cinebench R15-benchmark worden uitgevoerd op 4,6 tot 4,8 GHz (multi-thread) en 4,8 tot 5,3 GHz (single-thread). Op batterijvoeding draait de CPU op 800 MHz tot 4,8 GHz (multi-thread) of 3,6 tot 5,1 GHz (single-thread)

Wij controleren of de CPU Turbo ook permanent wordt gebruikt bij netvoeding door de multi-thread test van de Cinebench R15 benchmark in een lus uit te voeren. Hoge snelheden worden bereikt binnen de eerste minuut van de test. Daarna daalt de klok tot waarden rond 4 GHz.

Rocket Lake laat een goede indruk achter. Intel was in staat om de prestaties per MHz aanzienlijk te verhogen. Hierdoor kan het gemis van twee CPU cores ten opzichte van de Comet Lake voorganger (Core i9-10900K)tot opzekere hoogte worden gecompenseerdin multi-thread toepassingen.De 11900Kkanzich laten zien op het gebiedvansingle-threadprestaties. Hij ligthiervoorop zijn voorganger.

Grafische kaart

De GeForce RTX-3080 laptopgrafische kern vertegenwoordigt Nvidia's momenteel krachtigste GPU voor laptops. Hij kan putten uit het snelle GDDR6 grafisch geheugen (16.384 MB). GPU en geheugen zijn niet permanent op het moederbord gesoldeerd, maar zitten op een MXM insteekkaart. Het verwisselen van de kaart zou mogelijk zijn. De processor-geïntegreerde UHD Graphics Xe-750-32EUs GPU is af-fabriek uitgeschakeld en de notebook werkt niet met Nvidia's omschakelbare grafische oplossing Optimus.

Notebookfabrikanten kunnen de TGP en daarmee de maximaal beschikbare rekenkracht van een RTX-3000 grafische kern vrij kiezen binnen de door Nvidia gedefinieerde grenzen (Overzicht van alle RTX-3080 laptops inclusief de TGP's)kiest Schenkervoor het maximum van 165 watt (150 watt + 15 watt Dynamic Boost). Het resultaat is dat de Ultra17 zeer goed presteert in de GPU en gaming tests.
