Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 240.4 Hz ≤ 99 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 240.4 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 99 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 240.4 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9266 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 4 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Eindelijk bereikt de eerste vouwbare smartphone Europa en ons kantoor. De Galaxy Fold is zonder twijfel een innovatief product, dat met zijn vouwbare beeldscherm wellicht een voorproefje van de toekomst biedt. Of het design van Samsung ideaal is blijft een kwestie van smaak. De Huawei Mate X ziet er fantastisch uit, maar als het paneel zo kwetsbaar is als die in de Galaxy Fold, dan vragen we ons af hoe duurzaam en praktisch deze daadwerkelijk is.

Wellicht weinig verrassend is het primaire beeldscherm een van de grootste minpunten van de Galaxy Fold. Het vouwbare beeldscherm blijft ondanks de verstevigingen kwetsbaar en je moet dan ook niet denken dat de Galaxy Fold robuust is, of MIL-STD- / IP-certificeringen heeft. Zelfs bij te hard drukken of tikken met je vingernagels kan al afdrukken achterlaten op het beeldscherm. Dit kan problematisch zijn wanneer kinderen, of personen met nepnagels, de smartphone gebruiken. Samsung dekt dit soort schade niet zonder meer, zelfs niet met de Care+-service, iets dat je in het achterhoofd moet houden als je de Galaxy Fold aanschaft. En dan hebben we het nog niet eens over reparaties na het eerste jaar.

Vouwbaar, fantastische accessoires en vele superlatieven. De Samsung Galaxy Fold is een echt technologisch statement, maar wellicht enkel voor diegenen met een voorzichtige greep.

De software, die tot nu toe enkel aangepast is voor dit formaat, dempt ook het plezier van het gebruik van de Galaxy Fold. De Galaxy Fold is echter een van de eerste smartphones in zijn soort, dus zijn we voorlopig vergevingsgezinder met softwarematige tekortkomingen. Al met al is de Galaxy Fold een fantastische smartphone met goede verbindingstechnologie. Als je dus meer dan genoeg geld hebt liggen en graag wat nieuws wilt ervaren, dan is de Samsung Galaxy Fold het overwegen waard.
