Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 500 Hz ≤ 10 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 500 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 10 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 500 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17612 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 35 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (24.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Samsung Galaxy A21s is een laaggeprijsd middenklasse smartphone, met als belangrijkste verkoopargumenten een grote batterij, een modern design en een flexibel camerasysteem.

De levensduur van de batterij is indrukwekkend, ook al breekt hij niet records. Vanwege zo'n grote batterij duurt het opladen van het apparaat echter even. De camera's maken goede foto's en nemen nette video's op voor een smartphone in deze prijsklasse. Een meer flexibele zoom zou echter fijn geweest zijn. Andere positieve aspecten zijn onder meer de up-to-date beveiligingspatches, de prima luidspreker, het redelijk heldere scherm en de zeer snelle Wi-Fi.

De Samsung Galaxy A21s is goedkoop en heeft een aantal sterke verkoopargumenten zoals de gigantische batterij en de goede camera. Het heeft echter ook enkele zwakke punten.

Wat is het nut van snelle Wi-Fi als de SoC een eeuwigheid duurt om webpagina's te laden? Het middelpunt van de Samsung Galaxy A21s is oké voor een smartphone van 200 euro, maar het heeft aanzienlijke zwakke punten op het gebied van energie-efficiëntie en prestaties, waardoor de smartphone onnodig vastloopt. Andere negatieve aspecten zijn onder meer de slechte navigatieprestaties en de slechte bouwkwaliteit met scherpe randen.

 

Al met al is de Samsung Galaxy A21s een goed toestel voor wie een smartphone met een flinke accu en prima camera's nodig heeft. Er zijn echter duidelijke nadelen, dus potentiële kopers moeten de voor- en nadelen afwegen.
