Een goede deal. Veel geld uitgeven aan een smartphone? Samsung beweert dat dit niet nodig is met zijn betaalbare instaptelefoon Galaxy A20e voor 179 euro. Het toestel weet te scoren met zijn verbazingwekkend uitgebreide uitrusting, waaronder een octa-core-SoC, een dual-camera, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dual-SIM en VoLTE.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 349.7 Hz ≤ 50 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 349.7 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 50 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 349.7 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9354 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 25 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Wie slechts een klein budget over heeft voor zijn nieuwe smartphone, zal heel wat waar voor zijn geld krijgen met de Samsung Galaxy A20e. Natuurlijk is de behuizing van eenvoudige plastic en moet je ook van een klein formaat houden. Als je toch kiest voor het lichtgewicht van 141 gram, zal je beloond worden met een uitgebreide uitrusting en snelle prestaties.

Een evenwichtig aanbod: de Samsung Galaxy A20e, die normaal 179 euro kost, biedt verrassend veel op het vlak van hardware en verwent kopers met zijn uitstekende bouwkwaliteit.

Met zijn Exynos 7884B octa-core SoC en 3 GB RAM biedt de Galaxy A20e voldoende prestaties voor alledaagse apps zoals YouTube en WhatsApp. Op het vlak van communicatietechnologie is het toestel eveneens prima uitgerust: dual-SIM, VoLTE, VoWiFi, NFC en Bluetooth 5.0, inclusief ondersteuning voor aptX. Helaas wordt er niet zo'n breed gamma aan LTE-banden ondersteund, maar de frequentiedekking volstaat perfect voor Europa.

Een leuke extra features is ondersteuning voor DRM Widevine L1, die de Galaxy A20e toelaat om ook HD-video's te streamen van streaming-providers zoals Netflix. Andere voordelen zijn een dual-camera die prima foto's schiet bij daglicht en de inbegrepen quick-charger die de batterij volledig kan opladen in 1,5 uur.

Aan de andere kant zal je moeten leren leven met trage WLAN-snelheden in de Galaxy A20e en een selfie-camera die van erg matige kwaliteit is. Samsung rust zijn betaalbare instapmodellen ook slechts uit met een IPS-scherm. Hoewel dit perfect volstaat, is het inferieur aan de technologie van de AMOLED-panelen in de duurdere Galaxy-A-modellen.
