Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (24.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 50 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 18115 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

De MSI Prestige bleek in onze test een tegenstrijdige laptop te zijn. De prestaties zijn goed, maar zakken onder belasting sneller terug dan bij onze korte hands-on in september 2019. Het scherm is out-of-the-box al prima gekalibreerd en biedt ook een goed contrast, al doen de redelijk hoge zwartwaarde - en het feit dat de concurrentie beter scoort - dit deels teniet. Twee Thunderbolt 3-poorten zijn ook uitstekend op het vlak van poortconfiguratie, maar het feit dat een van hen wordt geblokkeerd door de lader en dat de resterende USB Type-A-poorten alleen in 2.0-versies zijn ontworpen, is dan weer minder geweldig. Aangezien er geen HDMI-poort is, zullen in extreme gevallen beide Thunderbolt-poorten worden geblokkeerd. In dat geval zou een bijbehorend dockingstation dit uiteraard verhelpen.

De MSI Prestige 14 heeft heel wat in zijn mars. Maar kopers moeten ook compromissen sluiten.

We zijn nu echter wat aan het muggenziften. De Prestige 14 biedt goede prestaties voor zijn formaat en veel hardware voor het geld. Er zijn nauwelijks onderhoudsopties beschikbaar en de compromissen die moeten worden gesloten, bijvoorbeeld in de batterijduur met het 4K-scherm, kunnen door elke potentiële koper zelf worden geëvalueerd. Wie voor deze laptop kiest, zal niet teleurgesteld worden, maar we raden toch aan om ook de concurrentie te bekijken.
