Stralend. De LG G7 ThinQ is de opvolger van de G6, een van de eerste smartphones in 2017 met een 2:1 beeldscherm, vaak gerefereerd als een 18:9 beeldverhouding. LG volgt de smartphone trend uit 2018 door een beeldscherm met inkeping te ontwerpen. Echter, dit beeldscherm heeft iets bijzonders te bieden. Het is namelijk de eerste smartphone met een mLC paneel, welke extreem helder zijn. Daarnaast heeft LG de camera verbeterd en andere hardware geüpdatet naar de nieuwste versie. Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 1174 Hz ≤ 42 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 1174 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 42 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 1174 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8781 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 17 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.

De LG G7 ThinQ verbetert de LG G6 op veel vlakken. Het gigantische 6.1 inch beeldscherm zal voor veel LG G6 gebruikers vreemd zijn; voor ons had LG de G7 ThinQ niet zo compact moeten maken. De Snapdragon 845 SoC is een grote sprong voorwaarts na de Snapdragon 835, wat de systeemprestaties ten goede komt. LG heeft met Hi-Fi Quad DAC ook de audio onder de knie.

De LG G7 ThinQ is vanuit een technisch oogpunt een indrukwekkende smartphone. Echter, het apparaat kan zich moeilijk onderscheiden van een verzadigde markt en de hoge prijs kan potentiële klanten afschrikken.

De kleine batterijcapaciteit dan de LG G6 is jammer, maar de G7 ThinQ weet het uiterste uit de relatief kleine 3000 mAh batterij te persen. Het beeldscherm is ook indrukwekkend, hoewel de helderheidssensor best wat minder conservatief had kunnen zijn. Ook de Wi-Fi is snel en stabiel. Een bonus is het inbegrepen draadloze opladen voor Europese modellen, wat niet het geval was bij de LG G6. Het is ook positief dat LTE Cat. 18 wordt ondersteund, maar het voelt grotendeels overbodig aangezien VoLTE noch VoWiFi wordt ondersteund in Duitsland.

Een overduidelijk verbeterpunt is dat we een modernere USB poort hadden willen zien, vooral gezien de hoge adviesprijs van €849.

We hebben de camera niet kunnen testen in dit artikel aangezien ons testmodel pre-release software bevatte. LG zegt binnenkort de uiteindelijke software uit te brengen. We zullen dan de camera evalueren en een oordeel vellen over de LG G7 ThinQ.
