Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 333 Hz ≤ 15 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 333 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 15 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 333 Hz is relatief hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen. Er zijn echter rapporten die beweren dat sommige mensen toch flickering met 500 Hz en hoger kunnen waarnemen: opgelet dus.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9435 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 97 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (25.1 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (40 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Honor heeft een gedurfde zet gedaan met de 20 Pro: een IPS-scherm in een high-end smartphone? Dat komen we maar zelden tegen. Het scherm is niettemin van hoge kwaliteit en geeft kleuren redelijk accuraat weer, mits de juiste instellingen. Aangezien stereo-luidsprekers bij de meeste moderne smartphones te vinden zijn, beschouwen we de mono-luidspreker, evenals de trage responstijden van het scherm, als een veel grotere blunder.

Tegelijkertijd kan het nieuwste vlaggenschip van Honor uitpakken met een aantal echte hoogtepunten: we denken hierbij aan de bliksemsnelle vingerafdruklezer in de aan/uit-knop en de nieuwe oplaadtechnologie, die toelaat om de smartphone, ondanks zijn grote batterij, uiterst snel op te laden. Nu we het over de batterij hebben: hoewel de batterij het erg lang uithoudt, moeten gebruikers hiervoor niet inboeten in prestaties. Toestellen met een Snapdragon 855 zijn echter nog iets sneller.

Een monster op het vlak van opslagruimte en batterijcapaciteit: de Honor 20 Pro heeft heel wat te bieden voor zijn prijs, met slecht kleine minpunten.

Daarnaast zorgt de ruime opslagcapaciteit de Honor 20 Pro voor een voordeel op het vlak van prijs/prestaties en wordt het ontbreken van ondersteuning voor microSD heel wat minder pijnlijk. De erg nauwkeurige GPS is ook een sterkte van de telefoon.

Hoewel de meest prominent geadverteerde feature, de camera, erg veelzijdig is dankzij zijn vier verschillende lenzen, kan hij moeilijk concurreren met de allerbeste high-end camera's op het vlak van beeldkwaliteit. Dit is te wijten aan de kleine problemen met scherpte aan de randen van het beeld, de 30-FPS-limiet voor 4K-video en het goede, maar niet geweldige Bokeh-effect. We waren echter wel onder de indruk van de uitstekende detailgraad.

Als deze minpunten jou weinig storen, is de Honor 20 Pro ongetwijfeld een prima keuze.
