Zelfs zonder Touch Bar briljant? De nieuwe MacBook Pro laptops zijn gearriveerd. De meest opvallende nieuwe feature: een Touch Bar in plaats van functie-toetsen. Apple biedt nog steeds een model aan zonder deze nieuwe eigenschap, en wil daarmee de "instap"-markt raken - prijs: 1699 EUR ($1499). We hebben een model op onze redactie getest met dit rapport als resultaat.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8931 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

In review: Apple MacBook Pro 13 Late 2016 (without Touch Bar)

Voor we onze hand kunnen leggen op Apple's nieuwe Touch Bar, testen we het instapmodel van de nieuwe MacBook Pro 13, welke reeds beschikbaar in de verkoop is. Deze dient volgens Apple op de middellange termijn ook de minder dure Air-modellen te vervangen. Voor 1699 EUR ($1499) is dit model echter nogal duurder dan de Air, maar qua hardware ga je er een stap op vooruit.

Het beeldscherm is helderder dan ooit en presteert ook in de metingen goed. De prestaties van de processor zijn vergelijkbaar met de Air. Vergeleken met de oudere MacBook Pro resulteert de overstap naar de 15-Watt Skylake processor zelfs in lagere prestaties. Dit is waarschijnlijk de reden dat Apple het model vergelijkt met de Air 13. De grafische prestaties aan de andere hand maken een grote sprong dankzij de geïntegreerde eDRAM. De batterijlevensduur en emissies zijn nog steeds uitstekend. Het systeemgeluid is subjectief gezien wat slechter (met name omdat ons testmodel een soms ratelende ventilator heeft). Zoals verwacht mag worden levert Apple nu de eerste klas geluidskwaliteit van de MacBook 12 ook in de MacBook Pro 13. Het nieuwe toetsenbord heeft tijd nodig om aan te wennen, maar werkt in de praktijk goed. Het trackpad is nog steeds de industriestandaard en veel beter dan de Windows concurrenten.

Een groot probleem momenteel zijn de stabiliteitsproblemen van de WLAN-adapter op 2.4 GHz netwerken wanneer je tegelijkertijd USB-C apparaten aangesloten hebt. We hopen dat Apple dit probleem oplost met een update. Apple wilde geen commentaar geven over dit probleem. Totdat dit probleem opgelost is trekken we 2% van het eindoordeel af.

Het grootste nadeel is logischerwijs het gelimiteerde aantal poorten. Twee Thunderbolt 3 poorten zijn toekomstbestendig, maar forceren de gebruiker tot het gebruik van adapters en dongles. Geen handige ervaring.
