De Samsung Galaxy A37 is bij release aan de dure kant voor wat je krijgt. De fabrikant heeft het geluk dat niet iedereen moeite zal willen doen om een toestel van een onbekender merk met een betere prijs-kwaliteitverhouding te scoren. Samsungs staan nu eenmaal bekend als gebruiksvriendelijk en betrouwbaar. Dat de A37 aan deze kwalificaties voldoet, zal voor veel consumenten genoeg zijn om ‘m in huis te halen. Zeker met de kennis dat het scherm goed is, de hoofdcamera niet tegenvalt, de software prettig werkt, er weer zes Android-versies beloofd worden en ook niet onbelangrijk: de prijs al aardig is gedaald. Dat dit verder niet de snelste en meest vernieuwende smartphone is, zal echter niemand verbazen. We raden wel aan om de 8/256GB-versie in huis te halen. Een tweede tip: hoef je niet per se de allernieuwste telefoon, maar wél een Samsung? Overweeg dan de Galaxy A56, één van de alternatieven die we hieronder voor je uitlichten.

For my money, I still prefer the Pixel 10a when it comes to mid-range Android phones. But the Galaxy A37 isn't far behind and it comes with some nice bonuses you won't get from Google's handset. For people who prefer larger devices, Samsung's 6.7-inch OLED panel gives you more room to work (or play) with. And despite actually having a slightly smaller battery, the A37 offers just a bit more longevity, plus faster wired charging when you need to top it off before running out the door. On the other hand, the Pixel 10a has a more premium design (including a perfectly flat back), better image quality and a nicer UI with a wider range of AI-powered software. But it also costs $499 instead of $450. So while it wouldn't be my first choice, Galaxy A37 is certainly worth checking out for anyone that's been feeling beat up by rising costs and is simply looking for an affordable, well-made all-rounder.

So then we reach to the end. Should you buy the Samsung Galaxy A37? Let’s ignore all the official launch and promotional pricing and we’ll take a look at the retail market. From what I can find out, Samsung themselves are already discounting the A37 down to around RM1,400, but that’s for the 8GB RAM variant. The 12GB variant is around RM1,600. You can basically save around RM200 for 4GB less RAM. It won’t affect the gaming performance since they’re all LPDDR5X RAM speed, but multitasking will be a bit more… rough. Looking at the big picture, the Galaxy A37, at the price of around RM1,600 is actually right in line with the realme 16 Pro and undercuts the vivo V70 FE that we’ve reviewed a few weeks ago. The A37 is a competitive alternative to those two phones – and I’d say the cameras on the A37 is actually better than those two phones, and One UI just seals the deal for me.

The primary and front cameras deliver good results, and battery life is strong. If you are upgrading from a phone like the Galaxy A34 or the Galaxy A35, the Galaxy A37 is a good choice. However, at $449 for the 128GB variant, it sits too close to Samsung’s Fan Edition lineup. The Galaxy S25 FE costs about $100 more when it's on discount (which is often) and offers double the storage, while the 128GB version can be had for just $480. The Galaxy S24 FE is often available for around $490 with 256GB storage. With those FE models, you get significantly better performance, more versatile cameras including a dedicated 3x telephoto lens, and access to advanced AI features. We would advise you to wait for a couple of months so that the Galaxy A37 can be had for at least $50 less.

If you’re in the market for a phone that prioritises high-end gaming and exceptionally strong battery life, shelling out extra for the POCO X8 Pro Max and iQOO 15R could be well worth it.
