Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 240 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 240 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 240 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8781 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 3 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (41 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS valt op doordat het de ultieme luxe smartphone is met een nog hogere prijs dan de iPhone XS of XS Max. De in het beeldscherm ingebouwde vingerafdrukscanner, overvloed aan geheugen en fantastische camera's proberen de prijs te rechtvaardigen. Het triple-camera-systeem is echter gelijk aan de P20 Pro en de in het scherm geïntegreerde vingerafdrukscanner mist de nauwkeurigheid van een meer traditionele sensor.

De Mate RS ziet er goed uit dankzij de stevige en robuuste behuizing. De prestaties zijn vergelijkbaar met andere Kirin 970-aparaten. Dat gezegd hebbende, heeft de smartphone te veel minpunten voor deze prijs. Ons testmodel werd ongemakkelijk warm bij belasting en had erg last van throttling. Het stroomverbruik is ook te hoog, wat leid tot een zwakke batterijduur. Verder werkt beeldstabilisatie niet bij 4K videos en is de GPS vaak onnauwkeurig.

De Porsche Design Huawei Mate RS kan niet voldoen aan de hoge verwachtingen die de absurd hoge prijs schept.

Er zijn voldoende high-end smartphones die meer waarde voor je geld bieden dan de Porsche Design Mate RS. Er zijn echter maar weinig die dezelfde graad van luxe en prestige kunnen bieden als het Porsche Design-merk kan.
