Nieuws uit Finland. Met de Nokia 6 werpt Nokia zijn nieuwe smartphone-topmodel in de strijd. De 5.5-inch Android-smartphone is beter uitgerust dan zijn minder high-end collega's, de Nokia 3 en Nokia 5 en plaatst zich resoluut in de mid-range categorie. Onze test wijst uit hoe hij het ervan afbrengt.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 57 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 6272 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het duurste model van Nokia's nieuw smartphone-trio onderscheidt zich van de Nokia 3 en de Nokia 5 door zijn grotere formaat en 5.5-inch Full-HD-scherm. Het werkgeheugen en de interne opslag hebben ook een upgrade gekregen en zijn nu respectievelijk 3 GB en 32 GB. Veel voordelen van de Nokia 5 hebben ook hun weg gevonden naar de Nokia 6: veel LTE-banden, een dual-SIM-sleuf, een vingerafdruklezer, Android 7.1 in bijna oorspronkelijke staat en uitstekende bouwkwaliteit. Met zijn 16-MP-camera schiet de Nokia 6 net iets betere foto's dan de Nokia 5, maar al bij al is het verschil redelijk klein.

De Nokia 6 is een goede smartphone, maar heeft weinig extra te bieden ten opzichte van de meer betaalbare Nokia 5. In feite is er maar één goed argument voor de Nokia 6: het grotere en scherpere beeldscherm.

Afgezien van het scherm weet de Nokia 6 zich echter nauwelijks te differentiëren van de goedkopere Nokia 5. Aangezien het SoC identiek is, namelijk de Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, zijn beide smartphones ongeveer even snel. Hoewel dit volstaat om gelijke tred te houden met mid-range-smartphones, zou een snellere processor de Nokia 6 goed hebben gedaan. Vooral voor gaming zou dit handig zijn, aangezien de Snapdragon 430 hier duidelijk meer moeite heeft om het Full-HD-scherm te vullen dan wat we bij de Nokia 5 zien. We missen ook een USB Type-C-connectie. Het voorbeeld van de Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) toont aan dat dit mogelijk moet zijn in deze prijsklasse.
