Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 625 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 625 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 625 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17520 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 60 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (24.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Motorola Moto G8 is een degelijke middenklasse smartphone voor kleinere budgetten. Het biedt een meer conventionele en dus meer bruikbare camera setup dan de Moto G8 Plus. De camera's presteerden zeer goed voor zijn klasse, en ze ondersteunen zelfs zoomen. In ruil daarvoor was de contrastverhouding soms te laag.

Ook de batterijduur van de G8, de bovengemiddelde prestaties en de robuuste behuizing bevielen ons. De losse vingerafdruklezer is een genot om te gebruiken, het apparaat blijft relatief koel en de luidspreker is oké.

De Motorola Moto G8 is redelijk betaalbaar en biedt meerdere camera's en heeft daarmee een echte voorsprong op zijn concurrenten.

De prijsverlagingen ten opzichte van zijn voorganger manifesteert zich in een beeldscherm met een lagere resolutie. Gelukkig blijft het goed genoeg en biedt het nog steeds een fatsoenlijke beeldkwaliteit. Het belangrijkste voordeel van de G8 ten opzichte van zijn concurrenten is zonder twijfel zijn veelzijdige camera's. Een reden hiervoor zou kunnen zijn dat de meeste smartphones uit het middensegment van 2020 nog niet eens zijn uitgebracht. Op het huidige betaalbare prijsniveau biedt de Moto G8 echter een fatsoenlijk totaalpakket zonder grote tekortkomingen.
