Een sprong vooruit. In vergelijking met zijn voorganger bereikt de Motorola Moto G7 nieuwe hoogten met meer prestaties en meer opslagruimte. De prijs blijft hetzelfde, wat de nieuwe middenklasse smartphone van Motorola zeer aantrekkelijk maakt.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 100 Hz ≤ 10 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 100 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 10 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 100 Hz is erg laag en kan dus aanleiding geven tot geïrriteerde ogen en hoofdpijn bij langer gebruik.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9813 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 24 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Met zijn krachtigere SoC en de voortdurende goede kwaliteit van de camera neemt de Moto G7 een kleine voorsprong op de rest en kan het model zelfs concurreren met iets duurdere apparaten. Omdat het beeldscherm ook nog steeds fatsoenlijke prestaties biedt en de behuizing glazen oppervlaktes heeft, oogt het apparaat hoogwaardig. Samen met de ruimte opslagcapaciteit biedt deze Motorola-smartphone een zeer goede prijs-prestatieverhouding.

We moeten zoeken naar zwakke punten: vooral tijdens handsfree gebruik is de microfoon niet erg accuraat, de stabiliteit van de behuizing had beter gekund en de WLAN-snelheden en de geschiktheid voor gamen zijn slechts middelmatig. Voor een vergelijkbaar bedrag kun je ook krachtigere apparaten kopen, zoals de Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite of de Nokia 7.1.

Vorig jaar hadden we veel details van de Motorola Moto G7 als high-end beschouwd. Samen met de lage prijs resulteert dit in veel smartphone voor weinig geld.

Niet alle betaalbare middenklasse apparaten kunnen 4K-video’s draaien en bieden een razendsnelle SoC, lange batterijlevensduur en nauwkeurige GPS-module. Zo krijgt de Moto G7 een duidelijke aanbeveling van ons voor iedereen die op zoek is naar een betrouwbare en krachtige middenklasse smartphone.
