Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 14880 Hz ≤ 28 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 14880 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 28 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 14880 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8943 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 46 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Huawei Mate 20 is net als de duurdere Mate 20 Pro een premium vlaggenschip. Huawei heeft de Mate 20 uitgerust met zijn Kirin 980-SoC, wat het toestel even krachtig maakt als het Pro-model. De lagere resolutie van de Mate 20 draagt bij tot zijn uitstekende batterijduur, terwijl de audio-aansluiting een leuke bonus is. De Mate 20 mist een aantal flitsende features van de Mate 20 Pro, waaronder zijn 3D-gezichtsherkenning, vingerafdruklezer in het scherm en draadloos opladen, wat sommige mensen niet op prijs zullen stellen.

De Huawei Mate 20 is een fantastische smartphone, maar moet het stellen zonder een aantal premium features van de Mate 20 Pro. De 200 euro die je uitspaart is het volgens ons echter wel waard.

De Mate 20 maakt daarnaast gebruik van een inferieure Leica triple-camera, die merkbaar slechter presteert bij weinig licht. De camera's kunnen zich echter wel meten met het beste dat andere vlaggenschip-toestellen van 2018 hebben te bieden. Niettemin is het een compromis. Huawei heeft het toestel ook uitgerust met een vlak LCD-scherm in plaats van het gebogen OLED-paneel in de Mate 20 Pro. Het toestel heeft ook een inferieur IP-certificaat, waarvoor we geen verklaring hebben. IP53 is gewoonweg onvoldoende voor een dure smartphone in 2018, zeker wanneer zoveel concurrenten over een IP67/68-certificaat beschikken. Onze bezorgdheden over de kleinere oplader bleken ongefundeerd, aangezien de Mate 20 snel oplaadt. Al bij al biedt de Mate 20 veel waar voor zijn geld en is het toestel een uitstekend alternatief voor de Mate 20 Pro, al mist hij wat chique features van de Pro.
