Altogether, the Omen Transcend 16 trailed in performance versus similarly priced laptops that were a bit thicker, not to mention one crucial even-thinner model. With that, we gave the HP Omen Transcend 16 the same score we gave its predecessor, and suggest the Alienware x16 R1 for a thin-and-light gaming laptop, or the Lenovo Legion Pro 7i Gen 8 for the best performance at 16 inches.

There’s no denying that the OMEN Transcend 16 is a solid machine with a lot to offer. However, there are a few minor niggles. For instance, the lid could benefit from increased durability. It would also be convenient to have the MUX switch accessible through the OMEN Gaming Hub software instead of being located solely in the BIOS. Additionally, to provide more storage flexibility, an additional SSD slot would be highly beneficial. Finally, including an SD card slot would be greatly appreciated for productivity tasks. The first one would be from HP itself, namely the OMEN 16 xf0043AX Gaming Laptop and the second one would be from Acer, namely the Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 Gaming Laptop. Both these laptops offer better gaming performance than the OMEN Transcend 16, all while being considerably lighter on the pocket. Overall, the HP OMEN Transcend 16 is a powerful, portable, and well-balanced laptop. However, it’s worth noting that it comes with a slightly higher price point, and in terms of value for money, it may not stand out as prominently as the competition.

We hadden wel pas een paar dagen na alles te installeren pas door dat Windows 11 zijn clock sync niet werkte, zelfs met mijn jaren ervaring met expert computer tech support heeft het me veel frustraties gekost om te vinden dat permissies in het register corrupt waren voor de timesync services, voor het opgelost was, maar wij wilde liever niet alles moeten herinstalleren.

The upgradability is fine – two SODIMMs and one M.2 slot for Gen 4 NVMe drives. The I/O is good with its two Thunderbolt 4 ports and HDMI 2.1 and we like the fact that part of the ports and the power connector are placed on the back for better cable management on your desk. In addition, with the aid of our “Design and Gaming” profile, the color accuracy can be enhanced to an average dE value of just 0.9 which makes the display suitable for color-sensitive work and content creation. The HP OMEN Transcend 16 (u1000) is a capable not-so-big gaming laptop with a sizable cooling solution, adequate performance, up-to-date port selection, PWM-free display, and good battery life.
