Sony's Vaio SZ4 XWN/C sits in the middle of a three-product family and is, as we've come to expect from Sony, a stylish, well featured, portable laptop with built-in security, all aimed at the business user. The SZ4 XWN/C is a stylish but costly, well featured laptop which is easy to carry around, but the thinness of the screen is something that will play on your mind unless you have it well protected.

Back in 2006, the SZ1 set the standard for power in a small package in the 13" notebook segment. Recently (in October 2007), the Sony VAIO SZ61 was introduced in Europe – two months after it became available as the VAIO SZ6xx in the United States. As the new high end of the SZ line, the SZ6 series is packed with power features. The VAIO SZ61WN is a good blend of portability without sacrificing on power and comes in a stylish and well built package. Its serious speed and processing power is hard to beat. The notebook has an excellent display and the resolution suits the screen dimensions well.
For me as an artist, speaking of technical equipment is always about versatile tools and means for expression and productivity I have to rely on. The SZ61WN is no exception and offers good value for money.

Due to its lightweight this Sz model is an ultra portable notebook with a fast Penryn T9300, a very bright 13.3" LED backlight display and a fast HSDPA access. The lightweight comes from the solid base construction, made of a high-tech composite material, called CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics), which also gives the machine its strength besides the lightness. Even with its initial high price, this notebook retains a good after life resell value, where one can get 70% of the original buying price, if one can find someone that wants to depart with it. Sony has replaced this model with a split of the T and Z models, yet this SZ series can be marked as a cult notebook for many business users and Sony fans.

The 4-pound Sony VAIO VGN-SZ791N falls somewhere between a beefy ultraportable and an all-purpose laptop.  The SZ791N's power is undeniable, but the keyboard and the mouse buttons raise questions about component quality. And considering Sony's $2500 asking price, we can't help but wish for a little more.

The VAIO VGN-SZ791N/X has a lot going for it. It delivers a top-of-the-line processor and plenty of RAM, a wealth of features, and great looks. The nearly $700 premium it costs over the similarly sized, similar-performing XPS M1330 makes the Dell system a better buy, but for the extra money, you get a more business oriented machine with hard drive protection and TPM circuitry.

The Sony VAIO VGN-SZ750N/C is probably one of the largest ultraportables on the market. While it may not have the smallest dimensions, it does provide a solid overall notebook experience with good performance, lots of storage space and excellent networking features. This makes for a solid ultraportable notebook for those looking at it as their primary computer system.

Sony: Sony Corporation is een van de grootste Japanse elektronicabedrijven. Het bedrijf werd in 1946 opgericht onder een andere naam en produceerde aanvankelijk rijstkokers. Het bedrijf lanceerde de eerste transistorradio. In 1958 werd het bedrijf omgedoopt tot Sony. Sony is een combinatie van het Latijnse woord sonus (geluid) en het Engelse woord sonny (kleine jongen). Tegenwoordig is de core business consumentenelektronica. Het bedrijf houdt zich bezig met de ontwikkeling, het ontwerp, de fabricage en de verkoop van elektronische apparatuur, instrumenten, apparaten, gameconsoles en software. Sony is actief in de volgende segmenten: gaming- en netwerkdiensten, muziek, afbeeldingen, home entertainment en geluid, beeldproducten en -oplossingen, mobiele communicatie, halfgeleiders, financiële diensten en andere.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400: De NVIDIA GeForce Go 7400 is in de lagere midden-klasse van notebook video kaarten. De prestatie benchmarks zijn lager dan de concurrent ATI X1400 (in spellen vaak beter). Voor niet-veeleisende spelers is de kaart volledig geschikt.

Waarschuwing: Zoals bij de GeForce Go 7600, bestaan er versies met een verminderde geheugenbus (Samsung R55 volgens een forumgebruiker).

NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS: NVidia GeForce 8400M GS is de capabele opvolger van DirectX 10 van de GeForce 7400 voor laptops en technologisch een langzamere 8400M GT video kaart. De prestatie is een tikje boven die van de 7400 waardoor hij de huidige spellen vloeiend kan weergeven met verminderde details / resoluties.  Voor mensen die slechts af en toe spelen, kan deze voldoende zijn.

Deze grafische kaarten voor notebooks zijn niet bruikbaar voor games. Als ze al games kunnen draaien, dan doen ze dat met grafische afwijkingen en heel lage framesnelheid. Voor gamers zijn deze chips ongeschikt! Kantoor en internet taken zijn, daarentegen, geen probleem voor deze GPUs.

Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) X3100 is een geïntegreerde (onboard) grafische chip op een Mobile Intel 965GM chipset (voor Merom = Core 2 architectuur).  Dit is de opvolger van de GMA 950. De integratie van de volledig programmeerbare pipeline is het interessantste hieraan.  Vanwege de integratie van de DirectX9 features, HDR en Hardware Transform & Lighning (T&L) – voorgangers hadden alleen Software T&L – zou hij geschikt moeten zijn voor Windows Vista Premium (ondersteunt Aero Glass volledig). Volgens de gegevens zou de prestatie beduidend beter moeten zijn dan de GMA 950.

Intel Core 2 Duo: Dit is de Core Duo, de opvolger van de Core Solo met een langere pipeline en 5-20% meer snelheid zonder een hoger stroomverbruik. Als een aanvulling op het Core Duo ontwerp zit er een vierde decoder op, een versterkte SSE-unit en een extra reken-, logische unit (ALU).
De Core 2 Duo voor laptops is identiek aan de desktop Core 2 Duo processors maar de notebook-processors werken met een lagere spanning en een lagere Frontside bus klok. De prestatie van gelijk-geklokte notebooks is 20-25% lager dan Desktop PCs vanwege de lagere Frontside bus klok en de langzamere harde schijf.

T7500: De Core 2 Duo T7500 is een Merom Core 2 Duo met 4MB Level 2 cache. Hij zit het middensegment (2009) en presteert vergelijkbaar met een moderne P7550 of Turion II Ultra M640/M660.

T9300: De T9300 is een snelle dual core processor uit het middensegment voor laptops en is vergelijkbaar met de T9400 maar heeft een lagere FSB.
