De Prestige 13 Evo is net een slag lichter en compacter dan de tegenwoordig populaire 14inch-laptop, en dat is erg prettig als je veel onderweg bent. Zeker omdat je daar dankzij de 16:10-beeldverhouding eigenlijk niet zo heel veel van merkt. De laptop is degelijk gebouwd en presteert ook nog eens prima. De toetsenbordindeling had wat netter gekund en de schermresolutie is niet heel indrukwekkend. De prijs is op het moment van testen zo’n 1249 euro. Niet goedkoop, maar je zult voor dat geld weinig andere laptops vinden die nog geen kilo wegen en makkelijk een dag op de accu meegaan.

The MSI Prestige 13 Evo (2023) is one of the most exciting productivity laptops so far this year, but that might be because it shows what MSI is capable of rather than staking its claim as one of the best laptops with a thin-and-light design. If MSI could stick an OLED in this machine and fix the webcam woes, there is nothing standing in its way. It has some of the best productivity performance among its rivals and dodges fan noises better than most. Battery life is impressive too. However, with a starting price in line with higher quality competition, at $1499/£1499, it falls short of being one of the best around. Those looking for a similar lightweight experience without the frustrating flaws on show here should opt for the Samsung Galaxy Book3 Pro, Asus Zenbook S 13 OLED (2022) and MacBook Air M2 (2022). The Prestige 13 falters when it comes to sporting a colorful panel, well-rounded speakers, and a competitive SSD. If you’re looking for any of the aforementioned features, we recommend picking up the Acer Swift 14, which impressed the hell out of us. Otherwise, if you want to stick to the lighter and smaller 13-inch form factor, the MSI Prestige 13 Evo is a good choice.

The MSI Prestige 13 EVO is by no means a bad laptop—in fact, its phenomenal trackpad, well-built body, and snappy processor made it a joy to use. Also, this thing weighs about two pounds, making it an excellent device for those who desperately need to get the smallest and lightest gear possible. It’s not at the top of its class, but it’s still a great experience and worth considering if you find it on sale. Its $1,500 price tag is mainly what bumps this laptop from a solid recommendation down to a maybe. Its chassis has the build quality to back up the price, but the 1080p display doesn’t cut it when most laptops over $1,000 have 2K or 4K displays (even OLED). The short battery life also hurts it, considering how much MSI marketed this laptop for travel and portability.

Business execs will be tempted by Lenovo's superlative ThinkPad X1 Carbon, while Apple iPhone and Apple Watch devotees will likely consider a MacBook first. As for consumers, you won't be able to help but eye two Editors' Choice winners from HP with more dazzling OLED displays. First, you have the HP Pavilion Plus 14, priced a couple of hundred bucks below the MSI, and then you'll see the HP Spectre x360 13.5, a convertible that costs a few hundred more but is worth it. The Prestige's lower screen resolution and awkward keyboard keep it from the top rank.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) werd in 1986 opgericht in Taiwan. MSI is vooral bekend als fabrikant van moederborden en grafische kaarten voor pc's, maar biedt ook computeraccessoires, complete systemen, moederborden, grafische kaarten, laptops, desktop-pc's, monitoren en andere componenten. De merknaam Microstar behoort in Duitsland echter toe aan het bedrijf Medion. MSI staat bekend om zijn gamingproducten en heeft een breed scala aan gaminglaptops en desktop-pc's ontwikkeld. Het bedrijf is ook actief in werkstations, servers en industriële automatisering. MSI heeft kantoren in Noord-Amerika, Europa, Azië en Australië.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs:

Deze middenklasse grafische kaarten kunnen alle huidige spellen vloeiend spelen. Veeleisende spellen kunnen alleen met gemiddelde detail instellingen gespeeld worden.

Intel Arc 8-Cores: Geïntegreerde grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Xe LPG-architectuur (vergelijkbaar met de speciale Arc GPU's, maar met de nadruk op efficiëntie). Biedt alle 8 Xe cores (128 Xe vector engines) en 8 ray tracing units.

Intel Raptor Lake-P:

i7-1360P: Op Raptor Lake-P gebaseerde CPU met een TDP van 28 Watt. Biedt 4 prestatiekernen en 8 efficiëntiekernen en dus 16 threads.

Intel Alder Lake-P:

i7-1280P:

Het vlaggenschip van de Alder Lake-P CPU met 6 prestatie-kernen en 8 efficiënte kernen. Deze i7 is ontworpen voor gebruik in ultralichte laptops; de prestatie-kernen zijn voorzien van de Hyper-Threading-technologie voor verdubbeling van threads, voor maar liefst 20 threads in totaal. De CPU draait op 1,3 GHz tot 4,8 GHz en ondersteunt vPro-functies op "Enterprise"-niveau. Core i7-1280P heeft een TDP van 28 W en een ingebouwde Iris Xe GPU van 96 EU.

Intel Intel Meteor Lake-H:

Ultra 7 155H: Een high-end Meteor Lake-chip die in december 2023 zijn debuut maakte. Deze Core Ultra-processor van de 1e generatie vervangt de Core-chips van de 13e generatie; hij beschikt over 16 kernen (6 + 8 + 2) en 22 threads. De Performance-kernen, waarvan er 6 zijn, draaien op maximaal 4,8 GHz, terwijl de Efficient-kernen, waarvan er 10 zijn (8 hoofdkernen plus 2 extra in het Low Power Island) op maximaal 3,8 GHz draaien. De geïntegreerde AI Boost NPU biedt twee Gen 3 engines voor hardware AI werklastversnelling. Het "minimaal verzekerde" stroomverbruik van deze laptopprocessor is 28 W, terwijl het Turbo-verbruik binnen de 115 W zou moeten blijven.
