EN→NLAs a gaming notebook in 2023, the Katana 17 (B12V) is fairly competitively priced. It offers wide configuration options based on capable GPUs from NVIDIA’s RTX 4000 roster. It’s worth mentioning that its RTX 4060 didn’t manage to fill its 105W TGP limit, but it ran pretty close with 85W detected by GPU-Z during full load. For all performance-based tests, we used the Extreme Performance preset through the MSI Center. Interestingly, there is a function that allows the use of a battery-saving display mode, which runs the screen at 60Hz. As a result, the device offers 6 hours and 30 minutes of Web browsing, or 5 hours and 30 minutes of video playback – about 50% better than the MSI Sword 17 (A12V), which lacks this function. MSI Katana 17 (B12V)’s IPS panel has a Full HD resolution, comfortable viewing angles, and good contrast. Unfortunately, it covers only 51% of the sRGB color gamut, and has slow pixel response times, despite the 144Hz refresh rate. On the bright side, the panel doesn’t use PWM for brightness adjustment.

In this video, I'm going to go through a complete review of the performance, screen, user experience, and best use case of the MSI Katana 17 B13V. This laptop is packed with performance and at currently (as of the recording of this video) priced at $1,299. For an RTX 4070, i7-13620H CPU, and 32GB of RAM that is an incredible price.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) werd in 1986 opgericht in Taiwan. MSI is vooral bekend als fabrikant van moederborden en grafische kaarten voor pc's, maar biedt ook computeraccessoires, complete systemen, moederborden, grafische kaarten, laptops, desktop-pc's, monitoren en andere componenten. De merknaam Microstar behoort in Duitsland echter toe aan het bedrijf Medion. MSI staat bekend om zijn gamingproducten en heeft een breed scala aan gaminglaptops en desktop-pc's ontwikkeld. Het bedrijf is ook actief in werkstations, servers en industriële automatisering. MSI heeft kantoren in Noord-Amerika, Europa, Azië en Australië.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden de meeste moderne spellen op een hoge resolutie en hoge details moeten kunnen draaien (enkele uitzonderingen zijn mogelijk).

Intel Raptor Lake-H:
i7-13620H: Op Alder Lake gebaseerde mobiele CPU met 6 prestatie-kernen en 4 efficiënte kernen. De prestatie-kernen bieden hyper-threading, wat leidt tot 16 threads die verwerkt kunnen worden. De CPU klokt van 1,8 tot 4,9 GHz en ondersteunt vPro.
Intel Alder Lake-P:
i7-12650H:
Op Alder Lake gebaseerde mobiele CPU met 6 prestatiekernen en 4 efficiencykernen. De prestatiekernen bieden hyper threading, wat leidt tot 16 verwerkbare threads. De processor draait op frequenties van 1,7 tot 4,7 GHz en ondersteunt vPro.

78.03%: Dit cijfer is niet echt overtuigend. Het moet in acht worden genomen dat er bijna geen laptops zijn die een score onder de 60% hebben. Dit notebook is beneden gemiddeld beoordeeld, en is niet aanbevolen te kopen.
