Zowel de contrastverhouding (2067:1) als de totale helderheid (365,6 nits) van het reflecterende 14-inch FHD IPS-scherm met grote kijkhoeken zijn fatsoenlijk. We waren ook niet in staat om tekenen van PWM flikkering te detecteren, wat nog meer goed nieuws is.

Het paneel is identiek aan dat van zijn broer of zus. Toch verschillen onze testresultaten enigszins. Dit verschil is te verwachten gezien het feit dat twee zelfs schijnbaar identieke panelen nooit echt identiek zullen zijn.

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 14825 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Testvoorwaarden

Lenovo's voorgeïnstalleerde Vantage-software stelt gebruikers in staat om te kiezen tussen een van de drie beschikbare prestatiemodi: Intelligent Cooling, High Performance of Battery Saver. In het kader van onze benchmarks hebben we gekozen voor de modus "Intelligent Cooling", aangezien deze standaard is ingeschakeld. De Yoga Slim wordt gevoed door eenRyzen 7 4700U (Renoir) APU door AMD. De CPU bestaat uit acht kernen die draaien op een basiskloksnelheid van 2 GHz met een turboboostsnelheid tot 4,2 GHz. Gelijktijdige Multithreading (twee draden per kern) wordt niet ondersteund.

De CPU liep tot 4-4,1 GHz gedurende een korte periode tijdens het uitvoeren van onze CineBench multi-thread test. Daarna daalde het tot 3.7-3.8 GHz. Op de batterij begint het apparaat op 1,3-2,5 GHz en gaat het langzaam naar 3-3,7 GHz. Single-thread tests werden uitgevoerd met klokfrequenties die schommelen tussen 1,4 en 4,2 GHz.

We voeren de CineBench R15 multi-thread test minstens 30 minuten in een lus uit om te bepalen of een processor al dan niet in staat is om hoge turbo-boost kloksnelheden te gebruiken onder langdurige belasting. De scores zijn tussen de eerste en de vijfde run iets gedaald en daarna op een relatief constant niveau gebleven. Turbo-boost wordt toegepast, maar slechts kortstondig bij hoge snelheden. Dit verandert bij het inschakelen van de "High Performance" modus, wat resulteerde in consistent hogere kloksnelheden gedurende de gehele test.
