Afgezwakt of beter dan ooit? De Xiaomi Mi A3 heeft heel wat mid-range features te bieden voor weinig geld. We zien echter niet alleen verbeteringen ten opzichte van de voorganger. Kom te weten in ons testrapport of het model van 2019 nog altijd zijn prijs waard is.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 219 Hz

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 219 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) .

De frequentie van 219 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager).

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9250 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 4 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.9 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De vraag die we ons in het begin van ons testrapport stelden, valt niet eenvoudig te beantwoorden: is de Mi A3 er vooruit of achteruit op gegaan ten opzichte van zijn voorganger? We zien argumenten aan beide kanten. De schermresolutie en 3D-prestaties zijn verlaagd en het energieverbruik is gestegen. Anderzijds werd het design gemoderniseerd en werden de batterijduur, camera-uitrusting en luidsprekers verbeterd.

De Mi A3 heeft last van onstabiele WLAN-verbindingen, wat Xiaomi zo snel mogelijk zou moeten oplossen met een update, aangezien de smartphone anders praktisch onbruikbaar is voor communicatie-apps zoals Skype.

Op sommige vlakken is de Xiaomi Mi A3 een beter toestel dan zijn voorganger. We hopen echter dat Xiaomi de problemen met WLAN spoedig kan oplossen met een update.

De concurrentie zal zich stevig moeten blijven inzetten, aangezien bijna niemand anders voor 200 euro zoveel rekenkracht, een OLED-scherm, praktisch eindeloze batterijduur en een modern design kan bieden. Al bij al wegen de positieve aspecten volgens ons het zwaarste door, ook al is de prijs/prestaties-verhouding van de 50 euro goedkopere Mi A2 nog beter.

Merk op: de Xiaomi Mi A3 is een van de eerste smartphones die we evalueren aan de hand van onze nieuwe Versie 7 van ons scoresysteem. Aangezien sommige criteria strenger zijn geworden en sommige gewichten gewijzigd zijn zodat toekomstige toestellen de schaal niet verbreken, is de score volgens Versie 7 lager dan die van onze oudere testen. In de komende weken herrekenen we de belangrijkste toestellen volgens de nieuwe versie van ons scoresysteem, waardoor je gemakkelijk kan blijven vergelijken.
