Veel batterij voor weinig geld. De M-serie van Samsung brengt premium-functies voor de middenklasse tegen een instapprijs - oorspronkelijk alleen in India, maar nu ook officieel hier. Lees in dit testrapport hoe de Samsung Galaxy M20 met zijn enorme batterij presteert.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9600 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde relatief trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 43 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.4 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Een lage prijs, in dit geval €229, is niet alles en de uitvoering moet goed zijn. Voor de Samsung Galaxy M20 is dat meestal het geval, althans in het dagelijks leven. Het geweldige beeldscherm is groot en scherp en de smalle randen en de inkeping laten het hele model er behoorlijk modern uitzien. Bovendien is het interne geheugen genereus met 64 GB voor een verkoopprijs van minder dan €250. De processor, samen met 4 GB RAM, presteert goed in de meeste situaties, afgezien van de benchmarks. De batterij is een hoogtepunt. Hoewel de M20 niet in de buurt komt van marathonlopers zoals de Moto G7 Power, vertoont deze meer uithoudingsvermogen dan de meeste smartphones op de markt.

Aan de andere kant vonden we de camera teleurstellend. Terwijl de ultragroothoeklens in de middenklasse nog steeds op papier goed staat, gaf deze in de test een reden voor desillusie. Immers, als de hoofdcamera fatsoenlijke resultaten levert bij goede lichtomstandigheden, dan is dit niet het geval voor de ultragroothoeklens. Naarmate het licht vervaagt, daalt de beeldkwaliteit van beide lenzen snel tot onbruikbaar.

De Samsung Galaxy M20 combineert de gebruikelijke sterke punten van de fabrikant met verrassende zwakke punten. Lage prijs of niet: daar had meer in moeten zitten.

Andere negatieve punten zijn de niet geheel nieuwe Android-versie en de eenvoudige kunststof behuizing. Met een stijlvolle aluminium behuizing en de nieuwste Android-versies, staat de concurrentie in dezelfde prijsklasse duidelijk voorop. Degenen die dit kunnen overzien, krijgen een prima smartphone van een marktleider tegen een relatief lage prijs.
