We zijn tevreden over de HP Stream 8 5900ng. Het apparaat is een simpele 8 inch Windows 8.1 tablet voor €209. De tablet verschaft niet alleen toegang tot de applicaties van de Windows Store, maar ook normale desktop programma's. Deze laatste categorie heeft het echter wel zwaar door het magere 1 GB RAM. Maar diegenen die vooral mobiele applicaties zullen gebruiken zullen het gebrek aan RAM niet merken. Dankzij het ingebouwde 3G modem, kan de tablet ook zonder WLAN verbinding met het Internet verbinden. Met de aankoop van de tablet krijgt de koper automatisch 200 MB data per maand, voor twee jaar. De benodigde SIM kaart wordt meegeleverd. Het heldere IPS beeldscherm is ook aantrekkelijk. De batterijlevensduur is niet spectaculair, maar voldoet wel.

Als je geen waarde hecht aan het 3G modem, zou je eens moeten kijken naar de Dell Venue 8 Pro 3845. De twee apparaten bevatten bijna dezelfde hardware, maar de Venue 8 Pro kost slechts €150. In onze tests bleek dat de Dell tablet langere looptijden heeft bij alledaags gebruik. Daarnaast is het beeldscherm van de Pro helderder en heeft het paneel een rijker contrast.
