Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 250 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 90 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden. De frequentie van 250 Hz is redelijk laag en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering kunnen dit dus waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen (gebruikmakend van de vermelde helderheid en lager). Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 21827 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 3846000) Hz waargenomen. |

De positieve kant van deze mislukte poging op een kantoor notebook met zakelijke ambities zijn de echt zeer goede invoerapparaten, evenals een zeer goede batterijlevensduur. In die zin maakt de Dell Latitude 15 3590 zijn professionele ambities waar. Dit geldt ook voor het meegeleverde beveiligingspakket en de bedrijfsgeoriënteerde connectiviteitsopties. De behuizing maakt ook indruk.
Wat absoluut onaanvaardbaar is voor een €800-kostend apparaat is echter het beeldscherm dat op elk denkbaar aspect verschrikkelijk presteert. Het is een TN-type beeldscherm met vreselijke kijkhoeken, ellendig contrast, een zware blauwe tint en een zeer laag kleurbereik. Daarbij komt nog de slechte kaartlezer, de aanzienlijk slechte WLAN-prestaties en de ventilator, die constant op de achtergrond zoemt, ook wanneer de laptop helemaal niet wordt belast. Dit is ongetwijfeld te danken aan een slechte besturing van de ventilator, wat resulteert in een absoluut chaotisch kloksnelheidgedrag van de processor.
De problemen met de ventilator en bijbehorende prestatieproblemen nemen een prominente plek in. We kunnen alleen maar hopen dat een toekomstige BIOS-update deze problemen zal verbeteren - tot die tijd kunnen we deze laptop niet aanbevelen.
UPDATE 08.07.2019: Na het installeren van de nieuwe BIOS-versie 1.9.8 is het gedrag van de ventilator en kloksnelheid normaler en veel verbeterd, en we hebben onze score voor deze laptop hierdoor verhoogd.
