Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde erg snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou zeer geschikt moeten zijn voor snelle games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 6 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (24.1 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 17 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (38.2 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9706 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 151500) Hz waargenomen.

Degenen die op zoek zijn naar een stijlvolle high-end notebook met goede invoerapparaten, moderne aansluitingen en veel verlichtingsopties, zullen tevreden zijn met de Alienware 17 R5.

Afgezien van enkele kleinere details, is de 17-inch behuizing overtuigend, zolang je maar kunt leven met de dikte en het zware gewicht. De korte levensduur van de batterij doet ook afbreuk aan de mobiliteit. Voor de opvolger wensen we ook een betere regeling van de ventilator, omdat de ventilatoren onnodig hard draaien tijdens 3D-gebruik.

Er zijn ook goede en slechte kanten aan het optionele QHD-beeldscherm, dat erg helder is en ook een zeer korte responstijd biedt aan de ene kant, maar lijdt aan een middelmatige zwartwaarde en beperkte kijkhoeken aan de andere kant. Bovendien kunnen de Turbo-prestaties van de CPU ook beter zijn. Tijdens multi-core belasting maakt de Core i7-8750H slechts in beperkte mate gebruik van overklokken.

Over het algemeen is het nog steeds voldoende voor een plek in onze Gaming Top 10. Maar de eerdere dominantie van Alienware-laptops is verbroken.
