Nauwelijks iets te klagen. Met de Predator Triton 500 presenteert Acer een uiterst compacte gamingnotebook die ondanks de kleine afmetingen krachtige componenten biedt. Naast een Intel hexa-core processor, is ook de gloednieuwe GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q high-end GPU van Nvidia een echte krachtpatser.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 9 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde snelle responstijden in onze tests en zou geschikt moeten zijn voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 4 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (40.7 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9813 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De Acer Predator Triton 500 komt net tekort voor een "zeer goede" beoordeling. De 15-inch notebook voldoet aan bijna alle criteria die een moderne gaming-notebook onderscheidt van de concurrentie. Naast de smalle beeldschermranden en de dunne behuizing, willen we hier ook het 144 Hz-beeldscherm met G-Sync vermelden.

De Triton 500 heeft ook geen gebrek aan prestaties. Onze testversie met een Core i7-8750H en GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q kan moeiteloos omgaan met elke huidige game op Full HD-resolutie.

Het is echter voor ons onbegrijpelijk waarom Acer geen gebruik maakt van de geïntegreerde grafische kaart. Wat mobiliteit betreft zou Optimus absoluut een voordeel zijn. We zien extra zwakke punten op het gebied van onderhoudsmogelijkheden. Het ontwerp van de binnenkant is zodanig dat kopers tot vrijwel geen enkele component toegang hebben (prioriteit: opslagstations en RAM).

 

Desondanks is de Triton 500 naar onze mening aanzienlijk meer succesvol dan de oude Triton 700.
