Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 38 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Het scherm vertoonde trage responstijden in onze tests en is misschien te traag voor games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.9 (minimum) tot 636 (maximum) ms. » 27 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (41 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8781 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Geen verrassing: de 4K-versie van de Acer Predator Helios 500 met Intel Core i9-8950HK is een uitstekend toestel voor gaming, aangezien de meeste voordelen van de goedkopere versie intact blijven. Volgens ons is het goedkopere model met de i7 echter de betere keuze. De Intel Core i9-8950HK kan nauwelijks betere prestaties neerzetten, terwijl de temperaturen en het stroomverbruik - mede dankzij het 4K-scherm - hoger liggen. Wat het scherm betreft: het Ultra-HD-scherm is zeker de upgrade waard en laat toe om met de GeForce GTX 1070 in 4K te gamen. De kwaliteit van het scherm is overtuigend, zeker de hoge dekking van de kleurruimten. Het Full-HD-paneel heeft anderzijds een hogere refresh-rate, waardoor beide schermen dus voor- en nadelen bieden.

4K top, Core i9 flop: terwijl het 4K LCD-scherm door veel gebruikers op prijs zal worden gesteld, is de Core i9 vooral geldverspilling.

Al bij al kunnen we het 4K-scherm zeker aanbevelen, maar de Core i9-8950HK is de hogere prijs niet waard - alleen de single-core-prestaties zijn echt beter dan die van de i7, al merk je dit nauwelijks in games.
