Eigenlijk is het verhaal van de Huawei Mate Xs erg simpel. Conceptueel is het wat mij betreft verreweg de beste foldable van het moment. De smartphone-tabletcombinatie is beter dan bij een Samsung Galaxy Fold. Het idee om die twee apparaten in één te hebben lijkt me zinvoller dan de klein opvouwbare Galaxy Z Flip of Motorola Razr. Qua specificaties is de Mate Xs bovendien goed genoeg om als ‘gewone’ smartphone te kunnen dienen.

ARM Mali-G76 MP16:

De meeste niet-veeleisende huidige games kunnen vloeiend draaien. Wees voorbereid op verminderde grafische weergave door lage detailinstellingen en lage resoluties. Toch verschaffen deze kaarten voldoende prestatie voor kantoor taken en video bekijken (niet voor HD videos).

Kirin 990 5G: ARM-gebaseerde octa-core SoC met 2x Cortex-A76 tot 2,86 GHz (prestaties), 2x A76 met maximaal 2,36 (balans) en 4x Cortex-A53 met maximaal 1,95 GHz (energiebesparing). Integreert een neurale processor (2+1 kernen), een ARM Mali-G76 MP16 GPU tot 700 MHz en een Balong 5G-modem. In vergelijking met de 4G-versie is de 5G 990 iets hoger geklokt (2 van de 3 clusters en de GPU). De SoC wordt bij TSMC in 7nm geproduceerd.

8.00": Dit schermformaat bevindt zich op de grens tussen tablets en smartphones. De meeste tablets hebben grotere schermdiagonalen maar er zijn ook heel wat smartphones met een dergelijk groot scherm.

Grote schermformaten laten hogere resoluties toe. Details zoals letters zijn groter. Anderzijds is het energieverbruik lager bij kleine schermdiagonalen en de toestellen zijn kleiner, lichter en goedkoper.
