We weren't blown away by the HP ZBook 8 G1ak 14 – although it's a perfectly capable machine that's enjoyable to use day-in and day-out. It looks every bit the part as a workstation should, with an outstanding build quality and extremely robust chassis, while also looking easy on the eye. However, it unfortunately fails to deliver on the performance levels you would really want from a machine built like this. While the display is also excellent, you can find better displays (with superior technologies like OLED) in ultraportables like the HP OmniBook Ultra Flip 14 – and better performance in plenty of comparable non-workstations too. For that reason, while there is plenty of potential in this machine, it's hard to recommend over alternative devices unless you need the connectivity features, added security extras, and a really bright display.

AMD Radeon 880M: Een matig krachtige iGPU met RDNA 3+ architectuur die in juni 2024 op de markt kwam.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Ryzen AI 7 PRO 360: Een relatief krachtige processor uit de Strix Point familie die in oktober 2024 zijn debuut zal maken. De APU heeft volgens de beschrijving 8 CPU-kernen (4 Zen 5-kernen en 4 Zen 5c-kernen) die op maximaal 5,1 GHz draaien, samen met de Radeon 880M grafische adapter en de 50 TOPS XDNA 2 neurale engine. De AMD Secure Processor (in een notendop een on-package ARM co-processor) zal waarschijnlijk ook aan boord zijn. Andere belangrijke kenmerken zijn PCIe 4, USB 4 en ondersteuning voor LPDDR5x-7500 RAM, inclusief ECC RAM. De door AMD aanbevolen TDP ligt comfortabel op 28 W.
