If you want to stay connected no matter where you are, the HP EliteBook 6 G1q with its optional 5G plan is up to the task. It's just a shame that the rest of the device doesn't measure up, because 5G is absolutely transformative for how (and where!) you can work, and I want it on every laptop. I can see this being a big hit with small- to medium-sized businesses that need a roving fleet of sales managers with always-connected devices, where the ability to get work done is more important than the perceived quality of the laptop. For everyone else, HP has the rest of the EliteBook range.

At all times, I never noticed the HP EliteBook 6 G1q getting overly warm in any manner, regardless of what task was being performed. Where some laptops have gotten uncomfortably hot on my lap, this was never something I experienced when using this laptop, thankfully. The HP EliteBook 6 G1q is no doubt a great laptop for those needing a computer that can handle being away from a charger longer than most in this class of laptop, while offering very few compromises. The addition of a SIM reader and a wide range of available ports gives it flexibility not typically seen, further easing the need for dongles or adapters in your travel bag and therefore lightening your overall carry load. These laptops don’t come cheap, but the HP EliteBook 6 G1q is yet another great laptop from HP and their EliteBook lineup. The EliteBook 6 G1q laptop packs incredible battery life and impressive hardware that help keep it ahead of the pack and make it one of the best series of business laptops on the market.

HP EliteBook 6 G1q review: 5G outshines the rest of this laptop The HP EliteBook 6 G1q delivers 5G connectivity that just works. It transforms how you use a laptop like this one, and I hope to see more laptops delivering seamless 5G out of the box in the future. For businesses, it also makes their fleet of laptops remotely trackable and manageable just like a cellular-connected phone or tablet is. The way HP has delivered multi-network 5G you don’t even have to think about is technically impressive. Unfortunately, the rest of the laptop experience is a lower-end Qualcomm Snapdragon X Plus machine. A company that wants to deliver a fleet of connected-but-mid-range laptops to a large number of employees will love these. But I bet the CEO will use a different machine.

The EliteBook 6 G1q isn’t much to look at in terms of design. Nothing really stands out as anything groundbreaking in the design; it sticks true to the HP EliteBook standard. I do like the nice array of ports it has, and that’s good to see. Given that this laptop is special because of HP Go 5G, I would have liked to see a different, more updated, and unique design language. Something to set it off as special. Still, it does have a sturdy build and construction, so that’s great for a business laptop. The display is colorful and has decent blacks and crisp whites, but I did find that the 400 nits was still too low for my liking. Thankfully, there are other displays to choose from, so I recommend getting the one with 500 nits.

Over the past few years, I have stopped using Windows devices and have moved to the MacBook even for office work. However, every once in a while, I do check out new releases in the Windows ecosystem to see what is happening there.This monsoon, I have got hold of the new HP EliteBook 6 G1q, a 14-inch laptop which the company touts as a “Next Gen AI PC”. Using a three-year-old MacBook as my daily driver, the new HP EliteBook 6 G1q did feel a bit thick and heavy, though it has a stylish design that accommodates more ports and fans than the Apple device has. The silver finish has some understated elegance to it, and the new HP logo does stand out in a crowd.

HP: Het Amerikaanse bedrijf werd opgericht in 1939 en is een belangrijke server- en printerfabrikant en een van de toonaangevende IT-bedrijven ter wereld. Tot 2015 heette het bedrijf Hewlett-Packard Company. Na een splitsing werd de computerdivisie omgedoopt tot HP Inc.

In 2023 had HP een geschat marktaandeel van 22% van de wereldwijde pc-verkoop, waarmee het nummer 2 werd na Lenovo.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: Een geïntegreerde grafische adapter waar de Snapdragon X Plus 8-core X1P-42-100 SoC over beschikt. Vergeleken met de snellere 3,8 TFLOPS en 4,6 TFLOPS X1-85 iGPU's draait deze niet alleen op lagere kloksnelheden, maar heeft deze ook minder verenigde shaders tot zijn beschikking, met 768 als meest waarschijnlijke aantal. De onderliggende architectuur verschilt naar verluidt niet veel van die van de Adreno 730. Wat betreft de gamingprestaties, deze zijn maar net voldoende voor games van voor 2020 bij resoluties zoals HD 720p op lage grafische instellingen.

Intel Graphics 4-Core iGPU (Arrow Lake): Geïntegreerde grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Xe LPG-architectuur (vergelijkbaar met de speciale Arc GPU's, maar met de nadruk op efficiëntie). Biedt 4 Xe-kernen (64 Xe vector-engines) en 4 ray-tracing-eenheden.

AMD Radeon 860M: Een vrij krachtige iGPU met RDNA 3.5 architectuur die begin 2025 debuteerde en een directe opvolger is van de Radeon 760M. De 8 CU's/WGP's (512 unified shaders) draaien op maximaal 3 GHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI-beeldgeneratie en andere moderne functies worden allemaal ondersteund, net als veel populaire videocodecs, waaronder in de eerste plaats AVC, HEVC, VP9 en AV1. De gamingprestaties zijn goed genoeg voor het spelen van 2024 games op lage grafische instellingen.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X:

SD X1-26-100: Een betaalbare ARM-architectuurprocessor (SoC) voor gebruik in Windows-laptops. De 8-core Snapdragon X-chip heeft 8 Oryon CPU-kernen die draaien op maximaal 2,98 GHz, samen met de 1,7 TFLOPS X1-45 Adreno iGPU en de 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU. De supersnelle LPDDR5x-8448 geheugencontroller die we kennen van andere Snapdragon X-chips, USB 4.0-ondersteuning, TB 4-ondersteuning en PCIe 4-ondersteuning zijn ook allemaal aan boord.

SD X Plus X1P-42-100: Een relatief betaalbare ARM-architectuur system-on-a-chip voor gebruik in Windows-laptops die op 20 mei 2024 zijn debuut zal maken. De X1P-42-100 heeft naar verluidt 8 Oryon CPU-kernen (8 P-cores, 0 E-cores) die draaien op een nog onbekende kloksnelheid van minstens 3 GHz. Een 3,8 TFLOPS Adreno GPU, een 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU, een indrukwekkend snelle LPDDR5x-8448 geheugencontroller, USB 4.0 ondersteuning, TB 4 ondersteuning en PCIe 4 ondersteuning zijn waarschijnlijk allemaal aan boord. Deze X Plus-chip maakt geen gebruik van dezelfde chip waarop de X1P-64-100, X1E-78-100, X1E-80-100 en X1E-84-100 zijn gebaseerd.

Intel Arrow Lake:

Ultra 5 225U: Een middenklasse Meteor Lake-chip die in december 2023 zijn debuut maakte. Deze Core Ultra-processor van de 1e generatie vervangt de Core-processors van de 13e generatie; hij beschikt over 12 kernen (8 + 2 + 8) en 14 threads. De Performance cores, waarvan er 2 zijn, draaien op maximaal 4,4 GHz, terwijl de Efficient cores, waarvan er 10 zijn (8 hoofdkernen plus 2 extra in het Low Power Island) op maximaal 3,6 GHz draaien. De 4-core Intel Arc Graphics, die net uit de oven komt, dient als geïntegreerde grafische adapter - deze draait op maximaal 1,90 GHz - en er is ook een groot aantal andere gloednieuwe technologieën beschikbaar, waaronder de geïntegreerde AI Boost NPU met twee Gen 3 engines voor hardware AI werklastversnelling. vPro Enterprise en bedrijfsgerichte functies zoals Remote Platform Erase zijn ook aan boord. Het basisverbruik van deze laptopprocessor is 15 W, waarbij 57 W het door Intel aanbevolen maximale Turbo-verbruik is.

AMD Strix / Gorgon Point:

Ryzen AI 7 350: Een relatief krachtige processor uit de Strix Point familie die in oktober 2024 zijn debuut maakte. De APU met hybride architectuur heeft 8 CPU-kernen (een mix van Zen 5- en Zen 5c-kernen) die op maximaal 5,0 GHz draaien, samen met de Radeon 880M grafische adapter en de 50 TOPS XDNA 2 neurale engine. De AMD Secure Processor (in een notendop een on-package ARM co-processor) is ook aan boord, net als een paar andere high-end functies, zoals AMD-Vi. Andere belangrijke kenmerken zijn PCIe 4, USB 4 en tot LPDDR5x-8000 RAM ondersteuning, inclusief ECC RAM. De TDP vermogensdoelstelling voor de lange termijn kan oplopen tot 55 W.
