EN→NLThe Asus Vivobook S16 has been on the market for over a year and in that time the low price has gotten even lower taking it under the $1,300 mark. There is now no doubt that this is the best value-for-money in the 16in laptop market. With its super light chassis, 3.2k OLED display, snappy Intel chip, and decent battery life, this is an absolute bargain. Sure, you might get more power with a MacBook, or an even better screen with Dell or Acer but what you get here is very close to premium performance in CPU and display technology for a significantly lower price. This is an outstanding and lightweight 16in laptop that we recommend, highly.

Now, I know that the ASUS Vivobook S’s lineup of rather confusing. We have an Intel version, Snapdragon version, and actually two AMD versions – one older generation and another is the latest Strix Point version. EN→NLIf you need a big and light machine with a great display, the ASUS Vivobook S 16 OLED M5606 can give you all that. The metal chassis is thin and decently solid. The OLED display (Samsung ATNA60BX01-1 (SDC4178)) amazes us with its sharp image thanks to the 3200 x 2000 resolution and superb color coverage. The 120Hz HDR display has an infinite contrast ratio and reaches 385 cd/m2 max brightness in HDR mode. The “OLED Flicker-Free Dimming” function is a life-saver for people who are sensitive to the typical pulsations of the OLED panels. The performance of our laptop is just fine for everyday tasks. Keep in mind that the tested Ryzen 5 7535HS is the least powerful CPU for this ASUS series.

Met zijn Snapdragon X-processor biedt de Asus Vivobook S16 voldoende prestaties voor dagelijks gebruik, en het matte IPS-scherm maakt indruk met zijn hoge 2,5K resolutie en 144 Hz. We waren ook onder de indruk van de lange batterijlevensduur van bijna 20 uur tijdens onze tests.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is een grote Taiwanese fabrikant van computerhardware gevestigd in Taipei, opgericht in 1989. Onder de merknaam Asus produceert het bedrijf een breed scala aan producten, waaronder laptops, desktops, moederborden, grafische kaarten, monitoren, smartphones en netwerkapparatuur, complete systemen en pc-onderdelen voor eindgebruikers.
Onder de merknaam ROG (Republic of Gamers) produceert ASUS gaming laptops die bij gamers bekend staan om hun krachtige specificaties, speciale grafische kaarten, schermen met hoge verversingssnelheid en geavanceerde koelsystemen.
Naast gaming wordt een breed scala aan notebooks aangeboden voor verschillende behoeften en budgetten, van ultraslanke en lichtgewicht ultrabooks tot veelzijdige 2-in-1 convertibles en budgetvriendelijke opties. In 2023 had Asus wereldwijd een marktaandeel van 7% op de pc-markt.
De klanttevredenheid over ASUS-notebooks heeft betrekking op de prestaties, de functies en de goede prijs-prestatieverhouding van ASUS-notebooks. Zoals bij elk merk zijn er echter af en toe meldingen van problemen zoals oververhitting, drivercompatibiliteit of problemen met de bouwkwaliteit.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.
Intel Arc 8-Core: Geïntegreerde grafische kaart gebaseerd op de Xe LPG-architectuur (vergelijkbaar met de speciale Arc GPU's, maar met de nadruk op efficiëntie). Biedt alle 8 Xe cores (128 Xe vector engines) en 8 ray tracing units.
AMD Radeon 880M: Een matig krachtige iGPU met RDNA 3+ architectuur die in juni 2024 op de markt kwam.
AMD Radeon 660M:
Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 1.7 TFLOPS: Een geïntegreerde grafische adapter waar de Snapdragon X Plus 8-core X1P-42-100 SoC over beschikt. Vergeleken met de snellere 3,8 TFLOPS en 4,6 TFLOPS X1-85 iGPU's draait deze niet alleen op lagere kloksnelheden, maar heeft deze ook minder verenigde shaders tot zijn beschikking, met 768 als meest waarschijnlijke aantal. De onderliggende architectuur verschilt naar verluidt niet veel van die van de Adreno 730. Wat betreft de gamingprestaties, deze zijn maar net voldoende voor games van voor 2020 bij resoluties zoals HD 720p op lage grafische instellingen.
Intel UHD Graphics 64EUs:
Geïntegreerde grafische kaart in Intel Alder Lake SoC's op basis van de nieuwe Gen. 12-architectuur (Xe) met 64 EU's (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). De kloksnelheid is afhankelijk van het processormodel.
Deze middenklasse grafische kaarten kunnen alle huidige spellen vloeiend spelen. Veeleisende spellen kunnen alleen met gemiddelde detail instellingen gespeeld worden.
Intel Arc 140T:

Intel Meteor Lake-H:
Ultra 7 155H: Een high-end Meteor Lake-chip die in december 2023 zijn debuut maakte. Deze Core Ultra-processor van de 1e generatie vervangt de Core-chips van de 13e generatie; hij beschikt over 16 kernen (6 + 8 + 2) en 22 threads. De Performance-kernen, waarvan er 6 zijn, draaien op maximaal 4,8 GHz, terwijl de Efficient-kernen, waarvan er 10 zijn (8 hoofdkernen plus 2 extra in het Low Power Island) op maximaal 3,8 GHz draaien. De geïntegreerde AI Boost NPU biedt twee Gen 3 engines voor hardware AI werklastversnelling. Het "minimaal verzekerde" stroomverbruik van deze laptopprocessor is 28 W, terwijl het Turbo-verbruik binnen de 115 W zou moeten blijven.
AMD Strix Halo/Point (Zen 5/5c, Ryzen AI 300):
Ryzen AI 9 HX 370: Een krachtige chip uit de Strix Point familie die naar verwachting in juni 2024 zijn debuut zal maken. De APU heeft naar verluidt 12 CPU-kernen, een 16 CU RDNA 3+ grafische adapter en een 45 TOPS neurale engine.
AMD Rembrandt (Zen 3+):
R5 7535HS: Mobiele Hexa-Core APU met zes Zen 3+ kernen geklokt op 3,3 tot 4,55 GHz en een RDNA2 grafische kaart met 6 CU's geklokt op maximaal 1.900 MHz. Vernieuwing van de oude Ryzen 5 6600HS met een 50 MHz hogere boost kloksnelheid.
Qualcomm Snapdragon X:
SD X1-26-100: Een betaalbare ARM-architectuurprocessor (SoC) voor gebruik in Windows-laptops. De 8-core Snapdragon X-chip heeft 8 Oryon CPU-kernen die draaien op maximaal 2,98 GHz, samen met de 1,7 TFLOPS X1-45 Adreno iGPU en de 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU. De supersnelle LPDDR5x-8448 geheugencontroller die we kennen van andere Snapdragon X-chips, USB 4.0-ondersteuning, TB 4-ondersteuning en PCIe 4-ondersteuning zijn ook allemaal aan boord.
Intel Arrow Lake:
Ultra 7 255H: High-end mobiele processor gebaseerd op de Arrow Lake architectuur met 16 cores verdeeld over 3 clusters. De snelle 6 P-cores klokken tot 5,1 GHz. Er zijn ook 8 kleinere E-cores met maximaal 4,4 GHz en 2 kleine energiezuinige cores (zelfde architectuur) met maximaal 2,5 GHz. Er is een kleine NPU geïntegreerd met 13 TOPS piekprestaties en ondersteuning voor vPro Essentials.
Intel Raptor Lake-H:
i7-13620H: Op Alder Lake gebaseerde mobiele CPU met 6 prestatie-kernen en 4 efficiënte kernen. De prestatie-kernen bieden hyper-threading, wat leidt tot 16 threads die verwerkt kunnen worden. De CPU klokt van 1,8 tot 4,9 GHz en ondersteunt vPro.
