The Asus ExpertBook P3 isn’t the most exciting laptop we’ve ever encountered. If we were talking about a gaming setup, that might be a point against it. But in the workplace, you don’t really want exciting (unless your job is disarming landmines with a pogo stick). It’s solid, dependable, and works hard, all while not trying too hard to call attention to itself. It’s Bill from that unspecified department that always manages to fix problems in minutes. That’s not a bad thing. The only drawback that we can see is the competition from Apple’s MacBook Air range. Similar pricing means it’s very easy to discard the ExpertBook P3 as a choice if the prevailing office culture favours Tim Cook’s fruit-flavoured machines. But if you’re in a Windows workplace, your IT guy will probably love setting you up on the company network on this machine. There are no real surprises. Just quiet, quick productivity.

Yet the Asus will be a better option for some buyers, either because they prefer the robust metallic shell to the Acer's more quirky recycled plastics, or because they're looking for a laptop with AI potential, where the 50 TOPS NPU in the Ryzen AI 7 processor has the advantage over the 13 TOPS NPU in the Vero 16's Core Ultra 7 255H. Either model is a great professional laptop, so it's more a question of budget, requirements, and style, but if you're in the market for a future-ready, big-screen business device, this is one of the best we've seen.

On the face of it, a great laptop, until I realised that Asus had flushed 50% of its performance away by making a silly decision on memory modules. That point aside, this is a nice system with more ports than many laptops get these days, and an excellent Ryzen platform. There are a few areas where this machine could be improved, opening up the option for a P3 Plus model with a 2.5GbE LAN port and the USB4 ports that the processor natively supports. But for the relatively low asking price, for the majority of office users, this machine is excellent, if you don’t make the horrible mistake of buying one with a single memory module.

Asus: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. is een grote Taiwanese fabrikant van computerhardware gevestigd in Taipei, opgericht in 1989. Onder de merknaam Asus produceert het bedrijf een breed scala aan producten, waaronder laptops, desktops, moederborden, grafische kaarten, monitoren, smartphones en netwerkapparatuur, complete systemen en pc-onderdelen voor eindgebruikers.

Onder de merknaam ROG (Republic of Gamers) produceert ASUS gaming laptops die bij gamers bekend staan om hun krachtige specificaties, speciale grafische kaarten, schermen met hoge verversingssnelheid en geavanceerde koelsystemen.

Naast gaming wordt een breed scala aan notebooks aangeboden voor verschillende behoeften en budgetten, van ultraslanke en lichtgewicht ultrabooks tot veelzijdige 2-in-1 convertibles en budgetvriendelijke opties. In 2023 had Asus wereldwijd een marktaandeel van 7% op de pc-markt.

De klanttevredenheid over ASUS-notebooks heeft betrekking op de prestaties, de functies en de goede prijs-prestatieverhouding van ASUS-notebooks. Zoals bij elk merk zijn er echter af en toe meldingen van problemen zoals oververhitting, drivercompatibiliteit of problemen met de bouwkwaliteit.

Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

Intel UHD Graphics 64EUs:

Geïntegreerde grafische kaart in Intel Alder Lake SoC's op basis van de nieuwe Gen. 12-architectuur (Xe) met 64 EU's (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). De kloksnelheid is afhankelijk van het processormodel. 

AMD Radeon 860M: Een vrij krachtige iGPU met RDNA 3.5 architectuur die begin 2025 debuteerde en een directe opvolger is van de Radeon 760M. De 8 CU's/WGP's (512 unified shaders) draaien op maximaal 3 GHz. DX12 Ultimate, ray tracing, AI-beeldgeneratie en andere moderne functies worden allemaal ondersteund, net als veel populaire videocodecs, waaronder in de eerste plaats AVC, HEVC, VP9 en AV1. De gamingprestaties zijn goed genoeg voor het spelen van 2024 games op lage grafische instellingen.

AMD Radeon 820M: Krachtige, op RDNA3+ gebaseerde geïntegreerde grafische kaart (iGPU) met 2 van de 16 rekeneenheden (= 128 verenigde shaders) en een kloksnelheid tot 2,8 GHz (afhankelijk van het model).

Intel Raptor Lake-H:

i7-13620H: Op Alder Lake gebaseerde mobiele CPU met 6 prestatie-kernen en 4 efficiënte kernen. De prestatie-kernen bieden hyper-threading, wat leidt tot 16 threads die verwerkt kunnen worden. De CPU klokt van 1,8 tot 4,9 GHz en ondersteunt vPro.

AMD Strix / Gorgon Point:

Ryzen AI 7 350: Een relatief krachtige processor uit de Strix Point familie die in oktober 2024 zijn debuut maakte. De APU met hybride architectuur heeft 8 CPU-kernen (een mix van Zen 5- en Zen 5c-kernen) die op maximaal 5,0 GHz draaien, samen met de Radeon 880M grafische adapter en de 50 TOPS XDNA 2 neurale engine. De AMD Secure Processor (in een notendop een on-package ARM co-processor) is ook aan boord, net als een paar andere high-end functies, zoals AMD-Vi. Andere belangrijke kenmerken zijn PCIe 4, USB 4 en tot LPDDR5x-8000 RAM ondersteuning, inclusief ECC RAM. De TDP vermogensdoelstelling voor de lange termijn kan oplopen tot 55 W.

Ryzen AI 5 330: Een mobiele mid-range SoC van de Krackan Point 2 processorfamilie. De APU bevat 4 CPU-kernen (1x Zen 5-kernen tot 4,5 GHz en 3x Zen 5c-kernen tot 3,4 GHz).
