TCL 20 R 5G review: een lage prijs en 5G is ook niet alles

TCL timmerde het afgelopen jaar behoorlijk aan de weg en lijkt naast tv’s en airco’s definitief naam te willen maken op het vlak van betaalbare smartphones. Met de TCL 20 R 5G willen zij een smartphone neerzetten die boven alles 5G-functionaliteit aanbiedt voor een lage prijs. Nu is het echter zo dat dit ene verkoopargument nog niet van doorslaggevende waarde is in Nederland of België. Uiteraard zijn er landen waar wel voordeel te halen valt met 5G, maar het is zeker nog niet het beloofde wonder waar wij reikhalzend naar uitkijken. Dus als men nu een telefoon in de markt zet die 5G nadrukkelijk promoot, kan men er maar beter voor zorgen dat de overige elementen ook nog de moeite waard zijn. En juist daar schiet de telefoon iets tekort. Voor elk pluspunt van deze smartphone is er weer een minpunt. Het design heeft goede punten en minder fraaie kenmerken. Hetzelfde kunnen we zeggen over het scherm. De telefoon heeft verder prima prestaties, maar de camera biedt heel weinig mogelijkheden.

De TCL 20 R 5G is een smartphone met een degelijke behuizing, een soepel maar minder scherp scherm, complete specificaties en drie jaar software-updates. Serieuze minpunten heeft het toestel niet, al is het HD-scherm een aandachtspunt omdat er in dit prijssegment ook smartphones zijn met een mooier Full-HD-scherm. Ik had liever gezien dat TCL daar ook voor had gekozen, in plaats van (deels) in te zetten op 5G-ondersteuning waar je voorlopig weinig tot niets aan hebt. Interessante alternatieven voor de TCL 20 R 5G zijn er genoeg. Zo verkoopt Xiaomi de uitstekende en tientallen euro’s voordeligere Poco M3 of kun je juist een paar tientjes meer neerleggen voor de Poco X3 Pro of Poco M3 Pro. De Motorola Moto G 5G en Nokia G20 zijn ook zeker het overwegen waard. Kortom: de TCL 20 R 5G is een prima keuze, maar heeft veel gewaagde concurrenten. Het loont daarom om de toestellen te vergelijken zodat je erachter komt welke het beste bij jouw wensen past.

If you aren’t in the market for a cutting edge flashy phone but still want the functionalities of one, then this phone is worth a look. You’ll be able to pick up the TCL 20 R5G from Harvey Norman, Vodafone, Officeworks & Mobileciti.

80% TCL 20R 5G – a good honest 5G smartphone at $349 (review)

TCL is a latecomer to the Australian smartphone scene. It is hard to get shelf space, let alone visibility at the major retailers. This is a shame as the TCL 20R 5G at $349 exceeds all reasonable expectations. My only two concerns are battery life and 4/5G signal strength. On the battery life issue, it is about half that of similar MediaTek Dimensity 700 phones. A firmware update is needed to address that. On the signal strength – while it is typical of Dimensity 700 – it is strictly a city and suburbs phone with good transmission tower density.

The R20 5G is a cracking phone that is well worth the money, and will be available through EE from October 29th Priced at £21 per month at £0 upfront with 4GB data, and available for general sale in the UK from November for £179. I really liked the form factor, and the screen is just a joy to look at, at times I thought it looked better than my £1200 S21 Ultra ( and lets be honest that’s where we spend most of our day). It does it have some faults, yes of course but these are mainly in the camera department, but I have a very early version of the device and I can see that these short comings can be addressed in further updates, it won’t be the phone for the absolute top end spec hunters. It is not intended to be for that market. Look back in the Coolsmartphone archives where Leigh reviewed the TCL 10 5G a midrange handset priced at over double the R20’s price, and this lower tier device scores higher. Would I recommend this phone to people yes I would, I know the lower tiers of the market is flooded with devices from all over the globe but the R20 5G is a handset worthy of a look if your in that market.

The low RAM size may cause heating issues but this phone is suitable for lite mobile gaming. The phone meets all the criteria to suit all types of users. If you don’t like the brand or want to wait for its global launch, then checking out alternatives would be a great idea. At the same time, there are some remarkable smartphones available in the market. In our opinion, the Redmi Note 10T smartphone will be the best alternative to the TCL 20R 5g phone.

Alleen oudere games kunnen vloeiend draaien met deze grafische chips (als ze niet veeleisend zijn). Gedeeld geheugen grafische cores in deze categorie hebben het voordeel van minder warmte-ontwikkeling en langere batterijlooptijd. Voor kantoor, internet, beeldcorrectie- en videomonteringswerk zijn deze grafische chips nog steeds bruikbaar zonder enige beperkingen.

Grote schermformaten laten hogere resoluties toe. Details zoals letters zijn groter. Anderzijds is het energieverbruik lager bij kleine schermdiagonalen en de toestellen zijn kleiner, lichter en goedkoper.

76.71%: Dit cijfer is niet echt overtuigend. Het moet in acht worden genomen dat er bijna geen laptops zijn die een score onder de 60% hebben. Dit notebook is beneden gemiddeld beoordeeld, en is niet aanbevolen te kopen.
