De Realme GT 8 Pro is op hardware-gebied zeker een toptoestel. Hij draait op de snelste chip, heeft een scherm van hoge kwaliteit en de batterij heeft een grote capaciteit en laadt snel op. Tijdens onze testperiode zijn we tegen vrijwel geen haperingen of snelheidsproblemen aangelopen. Wat betreft de nadelen: de software vergt mogelijk wat tijd om aan te wennen en ook het updatebeleid is niets uitzonderlijks. En daar houdt het lijstje al wel op. Wat ons betreft is dit een enorm degelijke telefoon voor de adviesprijs vanaf 899 euro.

Verder draait de smartphone op Realme’s versie van Android 16: Realme UI 7. Dit is eigenlijk precies hetzelfde als ColorOS 16 en OxygenOS 16 van Oppo en OnePlus. Begrijpelijk, want het scheelt de merken vast een hoop ontwikkelingskosten. Menu’s en animaties zien er daardoor hetzelfde uit en de Mind Space – om afbeeldingen, audio-opnames en andere documenten slim op te slaan met AI – is ook aanwezig. De grote vraag is: hoeveel gaat de Realme GT 8 Pro kosten? Daar mogen we nog niets over zeggen. Al kunnen we natuurlijk wel kijken naar de adviesprijs van Realme’s vorige telefoon. De GT 7 Pro kwam in Nederland met een prijskaartje van 785 euro. Ter vergelijking: de OnePlus 15 kost nieuw 949 euro en de Find X9 kost 999 euro. Als de fabrikant deze Realme GT 8 Pro aankomende december rond dezelfde prijs als zijn voorganger verkoopt, kan het nog wel eens een erg aantrekkelijke optie worden.

Still, it feels like a very compelling, characterful choice. In the end, this is a phone you pick with your heart as much as your head, because you really have to want that design story and the GR experience.

Realme has also raised the price of its flagship offering by Rs 13,000, as the GT 7 Pro launched at Rs 59,999. It is definitely a steep rise, but Realme has put in the work to justify these costs.​ The revamped design with a switchable camera module is a key highlight, and the bundled deco set that includes both the square module and cover is a good step. More importantly, the hardware improvements under the hood are quite noteworthy, particularly, the 200MP telephoto sensor, which represents a massive upgrade to its camera capabilities. This kind of sensor is typically reserved for the pro variants of OPPO’s Find X series, Vivo’s X series, and the Galaxy Ultra lineup, so it’s delightful to see it here.

Given its current capabilities, the general consumer who does not have a clue about Ricoh will definitely enjoy playing around with the various colour modes by the camera brand, as they give the photos a very unique touch. But Ricoh isn't shooting itself in the foot by tying up with Realme as the quality of the quality of the captures isn't on par with larger sensors on the GR cameras. Ricoh aside, the Realme GT 8 Pro has to be the most well-equipped GT-branded smartphone to date. The GT 8 Pro checks a lot of previously unchecked boxes this year, like wireless charging, a quality periscopic telephoto camera and even an extended warranty care program.

But on top of that, we also get a high-end telephoto camera that's equally adept at closeups and distant subjects, and an ultrawide camera that doesn't look like it's coming from the previous decade (not that its lack of autofocus doesn't drag it down, but still).

The performance is top-notch, the software is among the best, the battery life is great, and it charges super quickly. The modular design is a bit gimmicky, but it does mean that you can adapt it to your preferences, so I suppose there's some utility there. When it comes to the cameras, it's a solid showing. I was really pleased with the images and videos I was able to capture with the GT8 Pro in a variety of conditions. My only major complaint is the lack of autofocus on the ultrawide and selfie cameras, which really holds this system back from competing with the best in the business. Whether I can recommend the Realme GT8 Pro or not really comes down to the pricing.
