Maxtang is een Chinese systeemfabrikant die speciale industriële oplossingen verkoopt in de vorm van embedded systemen, maar ook mini PC's die ontworpen zijn voor kantoorgebruik. In deze review richten we ons op de Maxtang MTN-FP750, die $440 dollar kost. Het systeem bestaat uit een AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS en 16 GB DDR5 RAM en een 512 GB SSD. Als alternatief kan een AMD Ryzen 5 6600H processor ook beschikbaar. Bovendien kan de mini PC besteld worden met extra RAM en een grotere SSD. Maxtang biedt ook een barebones optie, maar deze wordt alleen geleverd met de AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS.

Behuizing - Metaal en kunststof in pianozwart

De Maxtang MTN-FP750 heeft een robuuste metalen behuizing die wordt gecompleteerd door zwart glanzende plastic oppervlakken aan de boven- en onderkant van het apparaat. Al snel worden vingerafdrukken zichtbaar en vroeg of laat zijn krassen onvermijdelijk. Qua stabiliteit lijkt het apparaat niet te lijden onder de plastic behuizing. Het Maxtang logo staat op de bovenkant van de mini PC.

Met ongeveer 13 x 13 centimeter neemt het apparaat iets meer bureauruimte in dan de concurrentie en met een gewicht van 600 gram is de Maxtang MTN-FP750 relatief licht. De PSU weegt net iets minder dan 290 gram. De Maxtang MTN-FP750 kan ook aan een monitor worden bevestigd en er wordt een VESA-bevestiging meegeleverd.

Kenmerken

Wat de poorten betreft, biedt de Maxtang MTN-FP750 de basis. Deze zijn allemaal aan de voor- en achterkant te vinden. Er zijn in totaal vijf USB-poorten, waarvan er één (USB Type C) ook als schermaansluiting gebruikt kan worden. Samen met de twee HDMI-uitgangen aan de achterkant betekent dit dat er in totaal drie beeldschermen tegelijk gebruikt kunnen worden. Bovendien bevindt zich aan de achterkant van het apparaat ook de 2.5G LAN-poort.

Communicatie

De Maxtang MTN-FP750 heeft een Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 draadloze module die overweg kan met 2,4 en 5 GHz frequenties. In de tests wist ons testexemplaar ons niet echt te overtuigen met indrukwekkende resultaten. Voor de test gebruikten we een Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000. Als alternatief kunt u de Maxtang mini PC ook op het netwerk aansluiten via een ethernetpoort. Overdrachtssnelheden tot 2,5 Gbit/s zijn mogelijk.

Accessoires

De Maxtang MTN-FP750 wordt geleverd met alle belangrijke onderdelen om het apparaat aan de praat te krijgen. Naast het apparaat zelf, bevat de doos een 90-watt PSU (19 V; 4,74 A) en een montageplaat voor de VESA-montage. Ook een HDMI-kabel en een beknopte installatiegids maken deel uit van het pakket.

Onderhoud

De Maxtang mini PC kan relatief gemakkelijk worden geopend. De basisplaat wordt vastgezet met vier schroeven die verborgen worden door vastgelijmde rubberen voetjes. Onder de bodemplaat is het vrij eenvoudig om bij het RAM of de M.2 SSD te komen. In ons geval is er nog ruimte om een extra RAM-module en een tweede apparaat voor massaopslag (2,5-inch formaat) te installeren. Om bij de ventilator te komen, moet het apparaat verder gedemonteerd worden, waardoor snel schoonmaken onmogelijk wordt.

Prestaties - Een AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS met 8 kernen en 16 threads

Ons Maxtang MTN-FP750-reviewapparaat wordt geleverd met de AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS. In de AMD Radeon 680Mbeschikt de SoC ook over een krachtige iGPU. Wat betreft het RAM-geheugen heeft de fabrikant er echter voor gekozen om de mini PC te voorzien van een enkele 16 GB, DDR5-5600 module, ook al kan er in de praktijk alleen een DDR5-4800 worden gebruikt.

Testomstandigheden

We hebben alle prestatietests uitgevoerd met het energieprofiel "hoogste prestaties". De prestaties van de SoC werden niet veranderd in het BIOS en het apparaat behield zijn fabrieksinstellingen.

Processor

De AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS is een relatief moderne 8-core processor uit de Rembrandt-serie. AMD's Zen3 SoC kan echter niet langer beschouwd worden als een van de nieuwkomers. Desondanks kan de processor 16 threads parallel verwerken, wat goede multi-thread prestaties oplevert. In de prestatievergelijking kon onze Maxtang MTN-FP750 slechts de op één na laatste plaats bemachtigen. De reden hiervoor is de vermogenslimiet van 35 watt van de AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS.

Maxtang MTN-FP750 vs. Cinebench R15 Multi-Loop

De Cinebench R15 multi-loop liet ons zien hoe goed het koelsysteem werkt onder belasting. De koeleenheid bereikt zijn limieten niet dankzij een lage maximale TDP van slechts 35 watt en daarom was het apparaat in staat om constant stabiele CPU-prestaties te leveren. In de vergelijking wist ons recensie-exemplaar zelfs de tweede plaats te bemachtigen achter de Geekom AS 6.

Systeemprestaties

Ook in de synthetische systeemprestatietests bleek ons testapparaat weer achter te blijven. Bij dagelijkse taken tijdens het testen en vanuit een subjectief oogpunt, was de Maxtang MTN-FP750 in staat om goede systeemprestaties te leveren, zolang het systeem niet uitgedaagd werd om teveel taken tegelijkertijd uit te voeren. Het RAM-geheugen lijkt de bottleneck te zijn, want als u het grafische geheugen aftrekt, zijn er slechts 12 van de 16 GB beschikbaar.

We registreerden al licht verhoogde latenties bij het openen van meerdere tabbladen met de Edge-browser. Deze nam echter niet toe naarmate de test vorderde. Bij het afspelen van onze 4K-testvideo werd de iGPU belast tot ongeveer 24 procent van zijn capaciteit.

Massa-opslag

Maxtang heeft ons MTN-FP750 evaluatie-exemplaar uitgerust met een Foresee 512 GB SSD. De PCIe 3.0 SSD maakt gebruik van de M.2 interface met de maximaal mogelijke bandbreedte en wordt niet kunstmatig tegengehouden door een langzame interface. Desondanks kon ons beoordelingstoestel slechts een plaats in het midden van de ranglijst verdienen. Er kan een extra 2,5 inch opslagapparaat worden geïnstalleerd. Grafische kaart

De grafische uitvoer wordt verzorgd door de AMD Radeon 680Meen iGPU die in de meeste situaties goede prestaties levert. Bij de Maxtang MTN-FP750 is dit echter iets anders en de reden hiervoor is het geïnstalleerde RAM-geheugen. De fabrikant heeft ons beoordelingstoestel slechts met één RAM-module uitgerust. In deze configuratie is de AMD Radeon 680M nauwelijks sneller dan de Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 met 96 EUs. Zelfs de Geekom A5 steekt met zijn oudere AMD Radeon RX Vega 8 met kop en schouders boven ons recensie-exemplaar uit.

Om de zwakke prestaties tot op de bodem uit te zoeken, hebben we een andere RAM-module uit onze voorraad genomen en een aantal benchmarks uitgevoerd. Dit leidde tot resultaten die ongeveer gelijk waren aan die van de Geekom AS 6 hierdoor doet de Maxtang MTN-FP750 niet onder voor zijn concurrenten.

Geluidsemissies

Zonder stress is de Maxtang MTN-FP750 grotendeels stil. Onder belasting bereikten we echter al snel 45 dB(A) en konden we slechts een minimaal verschil waarnemen tussen gemiddelde en volledige belasting. Maar we konden dit opschrijven als zijnde binnen de meettolerantie. Het is jammer dat er maar twee ventilatorstanden lijken te zijn. Een blik op de tabel laat zien dat zowel de Geekom A5 en de NiPoGi AD08 nog luider waren in hetzelfde scenario.

Temperatuur

De behuizing van de Maxtang MTN-FP750 warmt slechts minimaal op wanneer het apparaat stationair of onder belasting draait. We zagen een hotspot aan de bovenkant van het apparaat, die net geen 40 °C bereikte, terwijl de onderkant van het apparaat nog geen 35 °C bereikte. De SoC wordt echter aanzienlijk warmer, hoewel we bij bijna 80 °C nog steeds in de groene zone zaten. Bovendien heeft de fabrikant in het BIOS een maximumtemperatuur van 90 °C ingesteld. We waren nog steeds niet in staat om dit te bereiken met de vooraf ingestelde vermogenslimiet van 35 watt.

Stroomverbruik

In onze vergelijking behoort de Maxtang MTN-FP750 tot de zuinigste apparaten. In ruststand hebben we al een zeer laag stroomverbruik geregistreerd van slechts 7 tot 8,4 watt. Alleen de Geekom A5 en de Geekom Mini IT12 kunnen gelijke tred houden met vergelijkbaar lage scores. Onder belasting bleef ons evaluatie-exemplaar relatief zuinig, waarbij ons meetapparaat een piek van slechts 61,4 watt registreerde. Gezien de beperkte vermogensgrenzen van de processor, zijn dit niet echt verrassende energievereisten onder belasting.

Dit betekent dat de 90-watt PSU nooit problemen heeft om de mini-PC op betrouwbare wijze van voldoende energie te voorzien. De PSU kan het stroomverbruik zelfs moeiteloos handmatig aanpassen.

Verdict - Betere prestaties, maar alleen na optimalisatie

Maxtang MTN-FP750 beoordeling: geleverd door Maxtang

De Maxtang MTN-FP750 is een relatief eenvoudige mini PC voor kantoorgebruik thuis of op de werkplek. De AMD Ryzen 7 7735HS biedt voldoende kracht om de meeste taken aan te kunnen. De 8 kernen en 16 threads maken de mini PC geschikt voor toepassingen die veel prestaties vragen. Het geïnstalleerde RAM-geheugen bestaat uit 16 GB, wat voorlopig geen problemen oplevert. Maar als het erop aankomt, heeft het gebruik van een enkele RAM-module zijn vruchten afgeworpen, ondanks dat de Maxtang MTN-FP750 de installatie van SO-DIMM-modules toestaat. Dit betekende dat de Maxtang MTN-FP750 tijdens het testen niet de prestaties leverde die we hadden verwacht. De meest opvallende prestatieverschillen zijn te vinden in de 3D benchmarks. Dit probleem kan voorkomen worden door een extra RAM-module te installeren en dit is zonder twijfel iets waar klanten aandacht aan moeten besteden.

Volgens de datasheet levert de Maxtang MTN-FP750 uitstekende prestaties. In tests slaagde de mini PC er echter niet in om het beloofde vermogen te leveren.

Het grootste voordeel van de Maxtang MTN-FP750 is zijn lage prijs in vergelijking met de concurrentie die we hier in onze vergelijking presenteren. De prestaties zijn iets slechter, tenzij u het heft in eigen handen neemt en de vermogenslimieten van de SoC niet aangepast kunnen worden. Naar onze mening is de gedefinieerde vermogenslimiet van 35 watt een beetje te conservatief. Met 45 watt had de fabrikant een goed compromis kunnen sluiten. Hetzelfde geldt voor het RAM-geheugen, dat met een tweede module kan worden uitgebreid. Als u deze beide punten in overweging neemt, dan is dit qua prestaties een compleet andere Maxtang MTN-FP750 dan degene die wij getest hebben.

De poortenselectie kan als solide worden omschreven. Alle belangrijke poorten zijn aan boord, maar dat is het wel zo'n beetje. Thunderbolt of USB4 ontbreken, wat het aantal gebruikssituaties enigszins beperkt. Een positief neveneffect van een CPU met prestatiebeperkingen is de energiebehoefte van de Maxtang MTN-FP750. In tests was dit apparaat aanzienlijk zuiniger dan zijn concurrenten. Helaas had dit geen positieve invloed op het relatief luide ventilatorgeluid. Een iets beter koelingsconcept zou tot betere scores op dit gebied hebben geleid.

Prijs en beschikbaarheid

In onze reviewconfiguratie kan de Maxtang MTN-FP750 rechtstreeks bij de fabrikant worden gekocht voor $440 US dollar.
