Met de ThinkPad X1 Fold presenteert Lenovo de eerste laptop met een opvouwbaar OLED-paneel. Hij heeft echter te maken met veel beperkingen in het dagelijks gebruik. We willen te weten komen of de X1 Fold de hoge prijs rechtvaardigt of dat je het technologie-experiment beter kunt vermijden.

It’s that kind of a product which technophiles and professionals would be maximumly interested in, to possess its unique technology which in nature is first of its kind, at a hefty price tag of Rs. 2,48,000/- in India and $2,499 outside, this is indeed a premium product that appeals to a specific set of enthusiasts. Lenovo has nailed it with a sturdy hinge and a great OLED display when it comes to the hardware part. The only section where the ThinkPad X1 Fold lacks is the software optimization, where there are a few rooms for improvement for multi-tasking, USB-C audio, and more. Since the hardware itself is great, and Lenovo’s word to fix these tiny issues with updates, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is one such laptop that everyone would like to add to their collection. But for the market of folding computers, it’s all up and ahead from here as the technology will keep getting better!

EN→NLI have been reviewing laptops for years, and although I won’t say I am bored, the truth is my excitement for new notebooks has gone down. It’s not that brands aren’t experimenting with designs and features, they are, but the level of innovation has slowed a bit. To prove critics like me wrong, Lenovo thinks its ThinkPad X1 Fold, the world’s first foldable laptop, is a showcase device that might get mainstream status in the future. The ThinkPad X1 Fold isn’t about speed or graphics, it’s about the folding screen tech and how it can change the way we use a traditional PC. Two weeks back, I received the X1 Fold, and since then it has been my personal computer. Here are the good and bad aspects of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold.

EN→NLThe Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold isn’t perfect, far from it. At a starting price of Rs 3.15 lakh, it’s very pricey. And then, it has software issues, isn’t a performance powerhouse, and has other niggles too. I’m not too sure if I can say it represents the future of mobile computing, given how slowly things have progressed on the smartphone side of things. Foldable screen tech is still expensive, and yet to trickle down to the masses. That should happen sometime though, and the X1 Fold is the first step in that direction as far as laptops are concerned. The engineers and product designers at Lenovo have clearly put a lot of thought into it, and that shows. And just for that, it wins extra points from me. All said and done, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold is an engineering marvel, and while it might not be for everyone, in my books (pun unintended), it carries forward the ThinkPad legacy nicely, sprinkled with lots and lots of innovation.

At close to $3,000, users are paying a $1,500 premium for the convenience of being able to fold up their laptops in a semi-new way. With only 8GB and a Core i5 chip, it’s not meant to be a workhorse or even a mainstream creativity device for mass adoption. Couple those points with this janky Windows 10 experience, the X1 Fold at best is an engineering reference device.

Intel UHD Graphics G7 (Lakefield GT2 64 EU):
Deze grafische kaarten zouden alle huidige spellen moeten kunnen draaien, maar de meeste spellen zullen alleen met gemiddelde of lage detail instellingen en lage resoluties goed werken. Oudere of minder veeleisende spellen kunnen nog wel met goede grafische instellingen gespeeld worden.

i5-L16G7: De Core i5-L16G7 is een SoC met 5 processorkernen gebaseerd op de Lakefield architectuur. Het maakt gebruik van een snelle Sunny Cove-kern (bekend van Ice Lake CPU's) met maximaal 3 GHz en 4 kleine Tremont cores (Atom / Celeron). De CPU ondersteunt geen HyperThreading / SMT. De rest van de SoC is vergelijkbaar met de Ice Lake chips, zoals de Gen 11 grafische kaart met 64 EU's (Iris Plus G7). De SoC wordt geproduceerd in 10nm.

13.30": Dit schermformaat wordt vooral gebruikt voor subnotebooks, ultrabooks en convertibles. Voor alle drie types is dit formaat redelijk groot. De grootste verscheidenheid aan subnotebooks wordt vertegenwoordigd in deze klasse.
Grote schermformaten laten hogere resoluties toe. Details zoals letters zijn groter. Anderzijds is het energieverbruik lager bij kleine schermdiagonalen en de toestellen zijn kleiner, lichter en goedkoper.

1.169 kg: Dit gewicht is typisch voor grote tablets, kleine subnotebooks, ultrabooks en convertibles met een 10-11 inch schermdiagonaal.
Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" uit de Engelse legende, novo (Latijn voor nieuw) werd in 1984 opgericht als Chinees handelsbedrijf in computers. In 2004 was het bedrijf de grootste laptopfabrikant in China en, na de overname van IBM's pc-divisie in 2005, de op drie na grootste ter wereld. Naast desktops en notebooks produceert het bedrijf monitoren, projectors, servers, enz. en is het gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling, productie en marketing van consumentenelektronica, pc's, software, bedrijfsoplossingen en aanverwante diensten.

In 2011 verwierf het een meerderheidsbelang in Medion AG, een Europese fabrikant van computerhardware. In 2014 werd Motorola Mobility gekocht, wat Lenovo een boost gaf op de smartphonemarkt.
75.48%: Dit cijfer is niet echt overtuigend. Het moet in acht worden genomen dat er bijna geen laptops zijn die een score onder de 60% hebben. Dit notebook is beneden gemiddeld beoordeeld, en is niet aanbevolen te kopen.
