Lenovo Legion Slim 7 Review: A great look for gaming PCs

The Slim 7 is a device designed for people who care about design. There are plenty of computers in the same price category that make better use of the RTX 3060 but the refined slim profile of the Slim 7 is a nice mainstream take on gaming laptops in 2021. As a desktop replacement, I would look somewhere else, but as portable gaming rig for light use (2 or 3 plus hours of gaming) and productivity, the Slim 7 can lean a bit on its Robocop like design in 2021 but will need to step up its game regarding RTX and Adobe performance, to justify is slightly higher industry price tag.

This Lenovo Legion Slim 7 series ticks many right boxes for me: the premium build and looks, the portable format, the good inputs, the overall performance, and the long battery life are among its strongest selling points. I just wish Lenovo put a 16:10 QHD screen on this series, I'm not sure I can accept just an FHD 16:9 anymore after experiencing all the other options out there. Regardless, I think many of you will be happy with this laptop if you can find it for a fair price in your region.

Dit is echt een fijne laptop! Ik ben dol op het feit dat het een volledig toetsenbord heeft inclusief numeriek toetsenblok, en dat de toetsen zich bevinden waar het meest gangbaar is (sommige fabrikanten plaatsen bepaalde functietoetsen zoals 'Del' en 'Fn' nogal creatief). Het scherm is behoorlijk scherp en helder, de toetsen voelen goed aan voor een aanrakingstypist, de webcam heeft een goede resolutie, er is genoeg opslagruimte en RAM (maar ik heb extra RAM toegevoegd voor mijn RAM-intensieve videobewerking), en het hele apparaat is gemaakt van metaal, wat ik geweldig vind, het voelt behoorlijk stevig aan! Het enige minpuntje dat ik heb is dat het geen ingebouwde netwerkpoort heeft. Als je bekabeld wilt werken, heb je een adapter nodig. En het kan wat lawaaiig worden wanneer de ventilatoren op volle toeren draaien, maar ik heb erger gehoord; een koptelefoon lost dat probleem op!

I enjoyed my time with the Lenovo Legion Slim 7 and was pleased to find that I could play almost any game in my Steam library at a 1440p resolution with very few issues. I think this is a great choice for anyone looking for their first gaming laptop thanks to the slim design and respectable 1440p performance. But anyone looking for a laptop for 4K gaming or eSports-grade performance should look elsewhere.

With sharp looks, a high quality screen and more than enough desktop performance for both work and play, the Legion Slim 7i is a real portable powerhouse. It’s got gaming pedigree, but doesn’t scream that fact from the rooftops, so it won’t look out of the place in the office. Add in impressive battery life courtesy of clever GPU-swapping tech, and there’s little it can’t do. That said, we don’t think the version tested here is the pick of the bunch. Now that Intel and Nvidia have announced their next-gen processors and graphics cards, prices of ‘older’ models have quickly begun to dip, meaning you can pick up an otherwise identical machine with an RTX 3070 ti for pretty much the same money. Rivals like the Acer Predator Helios P300 are very closely matched, although the Legion bests them for sheer portability. 13th-gen Intel CPUs and Nvidia 4000-series GPUs might be the next big thing, but they’ll carry a big price premium for the foreseeable – and the hardware inside the Legion Slim 7i isn’t far behind. Grab one in the right spec and there’s an awful lot to like here.

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" uit de Engelse legende, novo (Latijn voor nieuw) werd in 1984 opgericht als Chinees handelsbedrijf in computers. In 2004 was het bedrijf de grootste laptopfabrikant in China en, na de overname van IBM's pc-divisie in 2005, de op drie na grootste ter wereld. Naast desktops en notebooks produceert het bedrijf monitoren, projectors, servers, enz. en is het gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling, productie en marketing van consumentenelektronica, pc's, software, bedrijfsoplossingen en aanverwante diensten.

In 2016 stond het bedrijf op de eerste plaats in de wereld wat betreft computerverkopen. Dit was in 2023 nog steeds het geval, met een wereldwijd marktaandeel van ongeveer 23%. Belangrijke productlijnen zijn Thinkpad, Legion en Ideapad.

In 2011 verwierf het een meerderheidsbelang in Medion AG, een Europese fabrikant van computerhardware. In 2014 werd Motorola Mobility gekocht, wat Lenovo een boost gaf op de smartphonemarkt.
