The fastest gaming laptop we've ever tested is here and its the Legion 9i which has a brand new design for 2025. With an RTX 5090 and Intel Ultra 9 275HX, we put this up to some of the best gaming laptops with AMD and Intel CPUs alongside the RTX 4090. Well it turns out that the Legion 9i is amazing in a lot of ways but it falls short in others.

EN→NLThe Lenovo Legion 9i is a design statement that looks great and proves enjoyable to use day-to-day. It also delivers strong game performance and an incredible array of leading-edge ports. These benefits are countered by a mediocre display with a 1200p/440Hz (or, alternatively, glasses-free 3D) mode that’s of questionable use. CPU performance also fell short of expectations. Still, the Legion 9i is a reasonable choice if you care mostly about GPU performance and will often connect the laptop to an external display.

Ondanks het feit dat de Lenovo Legion 9 18 een beetje laat in de 18-inch gaming-ring is gekomen, is hij met gemak een van de beste in zijn formaatcategorie, zelfs wanneer hij het opneemt tegen doorgewinterde modellen zoals de MSI Titan of Razer Blade 18.

Cheaper than all of the other models I’ve mentioned, the Legion 9i offers a similar top-tier gaming experience at a fraction of the price of the competition. Lenovo heeft met de Legion 9 18 moeiteloos het segment van 18-inch gaminglaptops veroverd. Nadat we onlangs de RTX 5080-versie hebben getest, kijken we nu naar het topmodel op basis van de RTX 5090. Zal de concurrentie weer moeten opwarmen?

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" uit de Engelse legende, novo (Latijn voor nieuw) werd in 1984 opgericht als Chinees handelsbedrijf in computers. In 2004 was het bedrijf de grootste laptopfabrikant in China en, na de overname van IBM's pc-divisie in 2005, de op drie na grootste ter wereld. Naast desktops en notebooks produceert het bedrijf monitoren, projectors, servers, enz. en is het gespecialiseerd in de ontwikkeling, productie en marketing van consumentenelektronica, pc's, software, bedrijfsoplossingen en aanverwante diensten.
In 2016 stond het bedrijf op de eerste plaats in de wereld wat betreft computerverkopen. Dit was in 2023 nog steeds het geval, met een wereldwijd marktaandeel van ongeveer 23%. Belangrijke productlijnen zijn Thinkpad, Legion en Ideapad.
In 2011 verwierf het een meerderheidsbelang in Medion AG, een Europese fabrikant van computerhardware. In 2014 werd Motorola Mobility gekocht, wat Lenovo een boost gaf op de smartphonemarkt.
Deze grafische kaarten zouden de meeste moderne spellen op een hoge resolutie en hoge details moeten kunnen draaien (enkele uitzonderingen zijn mogelijk).
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop: De GeForce RTX 5090 Mobile maakt gebruik van de GB203-chip en gebruikt 10.496 shaders / CUDA-kernen van de maximale 10.752 die de chip heeft. Hierdoor lijkt de RTX 5090 Laptop meer op de RTX 5080 desktop variant (zelfde chip) dan de Desktop RTX 5090 met 20.760 cores en hogere kloksnelheden.
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop: Een snelle grafische kaart uit de Blackwell-familie voor laptops die is gebaseerd op de GB203-chip en gebruik maakt van 8.192 shaders en 16 GB GDDR7 grafisch geheugen (256-bits grafische bus).

Intel Arrow Lake:
Ultra 9 275HX: Mobiele high-end CPU voor gaming notebooks gebaseerd op de Arrow Lake architectuur. Biedt 24 cores, bestaande uit 8 snelle cores met een kloksnelheid tot 5,4 GHz en 16 kleinere efficiënte cores met een kloksnelheid tot 4,6 GHz. De CPU heeft toegang tot 40 MB L2 cache en 36 MB L3 cache en heeft een TDP van 55 watt. De SoC bevat een kleine speciale NPU genaamd AI Boost met 13 TOPS (Int8) en ondersteunt optioneel vPro Essentials.

18.00: Dit is een erg groot schermformaat voor laptops, bedoeld voor niet-mobiel gebruik op een bureau.

Normaal hebben laptops met een 17 inch schermdiagonaal dit gewicht. Dit is redelijk zwaar voor een 15 inch laptops maar aanvaardbaar voor toestellen bedoeld voor stationair gebruik.
3.532 kg:
86.31%: Dit is een score die boven gemiddeld is. Wel moet je er bij bedenken dat ongeveer 10-15% van alle notebooks een betere score krijgt.
