Lenovo IdeaPad 5 14ALC05 in review: Compact, krachtig, duurzaam

Compacte krachtpatser. Lenovo's 14-inch laptop biedt een krachtige APU, ruimte voor twee NVMe SSD's, en een zeer goede batterijruntime. Het RAM-geheugen (16 GB, dual-channel modus) kan niet worden uitgebreid.

Lenovo's nieuwe Ideapad 5 14ALC05 is een 14-inch subnotebook aangedreven door een Ryzen-5-5500U-APU. Tot de concurrenten behoren apparaten als de Honor MagicBook 14 en de Acer Swift 3 SF314-42. De Schenker VIA 14 en de HP ProBook 440 G8 zijn ook alternatieven, maar ze zijn duurder dan de IdeaPad.

Omdat we al een zustermodel met dezelfde bouw hebben getest, gaan we niet verder in op de behuizing, de poorten, de invoerapparaten, of de luidsprekers. Die informatie is te vinden in de review van de Lenovo Ideapad 5 14ARE05.

Het 14-inch FHD (1920x1080) scherm heeft stabiele kijkhoeken dankzij de matte afwerking. Hoewel het scherm een goede helderheid biedt (314,7 cd/m2), is de contrastverhouding (785:1) te laag. Het scherm heeft een behoorlijke kleurnauwkeurigheid, maar de AdobeRGB en sRGB kleurruimten worden niet volledig gedekt (respectievelijk 36% en 56% dekking)

Dit is hetzelfde paneel dat ook wordt gebruikt in de identiek gebouwde IdeaPad 5 14ARE05. Toch verschillen de gemeten waarden enigszins (dit is normaal). Twee identieke beeldschermen zijn nooit honderd procent identiek.

In tegenstelling tot het scherm van het zustermodel, vertoont het scherm van ons recensietoestel flikkeringen met een frequentie van 29.800 Hz op alle helderheidsniveaus - een indicatie van helderheidsregeling via PWM.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (38.3 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9695 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 151500) Hz waargenomen.

Testomstandigheden

De notebook biedt drie energieprofielen: "Smart Cooling", "High Performance" en "Battery Saving Mode" Gebruikers kunnen schakelen tussen de profielen via de toetsencombinatie "Fn" + "Q" of via de vooraf geïnstalleerde Lenovo Vantage software. We hebben onze tests uitgevoerd met de "Smart Cooling"-modus actief. Daarnaast hebben we enkele benchmarks uitgevoerd met de "High Performance" modus actief. De resultaten staan in de vergelijkingstabellen.

Processor

De CPU-component van de Ryzen-5-5500U-APU (Lucienne) bestaat uit een zes-core processor met een basissnelheid van 2,1 GHz. De CPU kan opvoeren tot 4 GHz. Gelijktijdige multithreading (twee threads per core) wordt ondersteund.

Tijdens de multi-core benchmark van Cinebench R15 draait de CPU korte tijd op 3,8 GHz voordat hij terugvalt naar 3,6 GHz. De CPU landt tussen 1,7 en 4 GHz tijdens de single-core test. In batterijmodus draait de CPU op 3,5 GHz en 1,4-3,4 GHz tijdens respectievelijk de multi- en single-core tests

De resultaten in de single-core benchmarks zijn bijna gelijk aan die van deRyzen-5-4500U APU geïnstalleerd in deIdeapad 5van vorig jaar . Dit is niet verrassend aangezien beide APU's gebaseerd zijn op de Zen 2-architectuur (Zen 3 wordt alleen gebruikt in de Ryzen-5-5600U APU) en beide een maximale klok van 4 GHz hebben. De 5500U APU ligt echter voor op het gebied van termen van multi-threaded prestaties, omdat deze gelijktijdige multithreading ondersteunt (de 4500U niet).

We testen hoe lang de CPU kan boosten door de Cinebench R15 multi-core test in een lus uit te voeren. Na ongeveer 2 minuten daalt de turboklok tot net boven 3 GHz. De CPU boost is merkbaar in de "Smart Cooling" modus. Het "High Performance" profiel resulteert in een marginale toename van de prestaties op zijn best.
