3-in-1 convertible. De nieuwe Yoga Book heeft E Ink beeldscherm in plaats van een toetsenbord en kan gezien worden als een combinatie van een laptop, een tablet en een e-reader. En deze allrounder ondersteund het digitaliseren van tekeningen en tekst. Het apparaat is gebaseerd op de voorganger uit 2016 maar biedt vele wijzigingen en verbeteringen. De prestaties zijn bijvoorbeeld veel beter. Aan de andere kant ontbreekt er ook minimaal een feature. Is de 2018 Yoga Book twee keer de prijs van zijn voorganger waard? Lees het in ons testrapport.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9524 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De nieuwe Yoga Book beschikt over een e-inkt beeldscherm en is daarmee erg uniek. Het grote voordeel is de veelzijdigheid. Het is extreem klein en licht en kan gebruikt worden om te tekenen, als notebook, als tablet of als een e-reader. Maar het is weinig verrassend dat deze flexibiliteit enige compromissen meebrengt.

Het toetsenbord is bijvoorbeeld niet geschikt voor frequente typers en heeft geen verlichting. Het magere aanbod aan poorten kan ook hinderlijk zijn voor traditionele notebook gebruikers. Als een e-reader het enige is dat je nodig hebt dan kun je makkelijk lichtere alternatieven vinden.

De Lenovo Yoga Book is gericht op mensen die alle functionaliteiten (touch, pen, e-reader, etc) gecombineerd in een apparaat willen gebruiken. Gebruikers die een normale notebook willen zullen gelukkiger zijn met een alternatief.

Niettemin is het verrassend om te zien hoe goed het Lenovo gelukt is om alle deze functionaliteiten te combineren in zulk een licht apparaat. Het design en de coole functies (kloppen) maken van de Yoga Book C930 een echte blikvanger. Omdat we nog niet een aparte categorie hebben voor e-inkt beeldschermen in ons beoordelingssysteem hebben we handmatig twee extra punten aan de score toegevoegd.

Sommige gebruikers zullen de prijs als een nadeel beschouwen. Met een startprijs van $ 1050 kost het notebook bijna het dubbele van zijn voorganger. Behalve de vele verbeteringen zijn sommige features verdwenen. De mogelijkheid om afbeeldingen van papier te digitaliseren is niet langer aanwezig. De betere hoofdcamera is ook verdwenen en helaas is ook de batterijduur korter dan zijn voorganger. De prestaties zijn wel enorm toegenomen en ook het beeldscherm is beter. Tot slot: het huidige notebook heeft geen echte concurrenten.
