Minder duur… maar nog steeds duur. De nieuwe ThinkPad X1 Yoga (Core i5, FHD) behoudt veel sterke punten, terwijl de prijs halveert. Is dit het optimale apparaat voor de convertible PC markt?

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 58 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 5559 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De ThinkPad X1 Yoga is met een prijs van $2000 voor de meeste configuraties geen goedkoop apparaat. Echter, met een $1500 lagere prijs dan ons Core i7/OLED testmodel is het apparaat bereikbaarder voor de gemiddelde zakelijke gebruiker. Dat is echter niet het enige dat in het voordeel spreekt van het huidige testmodel: er is geen achteruitgang in CPU prestaties, het apparaat is stiller, de batterij gaat langer mee en het apparaat wordt minder geplaagd door oververhitting. Ook hebben we geen PWM kunnen bemerken, in tegenstelling tot ons OLED testmodel. 

Er is niet zo veel mis met de ThinkPad X1 Yoga; als je op zoek bent naar een 360-graden convertible, weer er dan zeker van de X1 te overwegen!

Afgezien van het ontbreken van OLED en een WQHD resolutie (ons testmodel heeft een Full HD resolutie) en een enigszins tragere CPU en SSD, is het dezelfde machine. Precies daarom is er niet veel mis met de ThinkPad X1 Yoga: het apparaat is een veelzijdig, stil, koel, en lenig stukje technologie. Als je op zoek bent naar een 360-graden convertible, weer er dan zeker van de X1 te overwegen.
