Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 78 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd slechter is dan het gemiddelde (25.5 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (40.8 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 25510 Hz ≤ 50 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 25510 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 50 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 25510 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9868 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

De Lenovo ThinkPad A285 geeft gebruikers eindelijk de kans om een compacte ThinkPad-laptop te krijgen met een AMD-processor. Naast de drie basismodellen kan het 12.5-inch-toestel verder geconfigureerd worden en is hij verkrijgbaar met handige features zoals een SmartCard-lezer of vingerafdruklezer. De fabrikant biedt ook een optionele WWAN-module zodat je onderweg kan surfen op het web.

AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 2500U is een goede CPU voor de A285 en biedt meer dan genoeg prestaties voor alle gebruikelijke taken. De processor is vergelijkbaar met een Intel Core i5-8250U, maar niet bij aanhoudende belasting. De X280 met de Intel-CPU is sneller, maar dit is ook een gevolg van verschillende TDP-configuraties, die door Lenovo werden ingesteld.

Het grootste verschil tussen de twee chips is de geïntegreerde grafische adapter. AMD's Radeon Vega 8 is een veel snellere chip die de Intel UHD Graphics 620 met gemak verslaat in de benchmarks.

Ons testmodel van de Lenovo ThinkPad A285 wordt verkocht voor 1439 euro. We waren vooral tevreden met de uitstekende invoerapparatuur en de PCIe-SSD van 256 GB die goede systeemprestaties verzekert. De hoogwaardige en stevige behuizing vervolledigt het totaalpakket. Het toestel weegt slechts 1,1 kg, waardoor je het gemakkelijk mee kan dragen in je tas of rugzak.

De Lenovo ThinkPad A285 is een prima toestel met AMD-processor dat baat heeft bij zijn lagere prijs ten opzichte van de X280. De A285 is een prima keuze als je de extra CPU-prestaties of langere batterijduur van de X280 niet per se nodig hebt.

Er zijn ook een aantal nadelen, waaronder het verhoogde stroomverbruik die de batterijduur negatief beïnvloed in vergelijking met de X280. Het scherm in ons testmodel is ook wat slechter, maar dit heeft waarschijnlijk te maken met de te verwachten variatie in de schermkwaliteit. De fabrikant maakt gebruik van verschillend leveranciers waardoor je voorafgaand aan je aankoop nooit zeker weet welk scherm je zal krijgen.

Het gesoldeerde geheugen, dat je later dus niet kan upgraden, is ongetwijfeld een slechte ontwikkeling voor een zakelijk toestel. Toch is onze algemene indruk van het toestel positief en kunnen we het zeker aanbevelen. Of gebruikers bereid zullen zijn om te switchen naar een AMD-systeem voor hun zakelijk toestel valt nog af te wachten, maar de lagere prijs is in ieder geval een voordeel. Een vergelijkbaar uitgeruste ThinkPad X280 met een Intel-CPU is bijna 200 euro duurder en presteert slechts iets beter.
