Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM waargenomen 1000 Hz ≤ 10 % helderheid instelling

Het backlight van het scherm flikkert aan 1000 Hz (hoogstwaarschijnlijk met PWM - Pulse-Width Modulation) aan een helderheid van 10 % en lager. Boven deze helderheid zou er geen flickering / PWM mogen optreden.

De frequentie van 1000 Hz is redelijk hoog en de meeste mensen die gevoelig zijn aan flickering zouden dit dus niet mogen waarnemen of geïrriteerde ogen krijgen.

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 9429 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Het scherm vertoonde prima responstijden in onze tests maar is misschien wat te traag voor competitieve games.
Ter vergelijking: alle testtoestellen variëren van 0.8 (minimum) tot 240 (maximum) ms. » 14 % van alle toestellen zijn beter.
Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (25.1 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

De Huawei Y5 2019 is een goede update van de Y5 2018 en biedt meerdere voordelen. De systeemprestaties zijn hoger en het design is moderner, inclusief een druppel notch. De luidspreker, hoewel matig geluid, is ook beter dan zijn voorganger. Het beeldscherm heeft een betere kleurweergave en is ook helderder dan zijn voorganger.

Huawei had zichzelf en zijn klanten een gunst kunnen verlenen door de toevoeging van de vingerafdruksensor, maar aan de andere kant heeft de camera met zijn 13 MP nu een redelijk hoge resolutie voor dit segment en kan ook acceptabele foto's maken.

De Huawei Y5 2019: een goede budget smartphone met veel prestaties en significante verbetering van zijn voorganger.

De Xiaomi Redmi 7 is een stevige concurrent. Deze is net € 30 duurder en biedt aanzienlijk meer prestaties, een vingerafdruksensor en een langere batterijduur. De BQ Aquaris C biedt aanzienlijk snellere WLAN en een vingerafdruksensor. Tegelijkertijd heeft de Huawei Y5 2019 verscheidene zwakke punten van zijn voorganger opgelost en is nu een concurrerende budget smartphone.

Op het moment van schrijven zijn de extra kosten in vergelijking net de Y5 2018 ongeveer € 20. Als je niet kunt kiezen tussen de twee smartphones dan is het huidige model de betere keuze.

Opmerking: ten tijde van onze tests sprak iedereen over de handelsoorlog tussen de VS en China en hoe dit met name Huawei beïnvloed. De fabrikant heeft echter bevestigd dat er geen beperkingen zullen zijn wat betreft de software updates of bruikbare apps voor alle modellen die op dit moment te koop of verkocht zijn.
