Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd vergelijkbaar is met het gemiddelde (25.6 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Dit betekent dat de gemeten responstijd beter is dan het gemiddelde (41 ms) van alle geteste toestellen.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 52 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 8770 (minimum: 43 - maximum: 142900) Hz waargenomen.

Op de nieuwe hardware na, is de MateBook D 53010BAJ hetzelfd 15.6-inch aluminium mainstream multimedia notebook dat Huawei vorig jaar introduceerde. Voor de gegeven adviesprijs is de behuizing erg goed ontworpen, stevig en plezierig om naar te kijken. De systeemprestaties zijn goed genoeg, hoewel het nieuwe model niet forse stappen maakt ten opzichte van de voorganger. Het is goed dat Huawei niet geprobeerd heeft om een Coffee Lake-H zes-core CPU in de slanke behuizing te proppen, daaraan zou het koelsysteem teveel werk hebben en ook de batterijduur zou ingekort zijn. Zelfs met de 15 watt ULV CPU blijft throttling echter een probleem bij belasting. Huawei blijft agressieve CPU en GPU throttling hanteren om de interne en externe temperaturen binnen de perken te houden, ten koste van de prestaties. Het netto resultaat: de MateBook D biedt betere prestaties, maar wordt helaas net zo warm als de voorganger en is ook nog luider geworden. Wel moeten we opmerken dat het throttlen zich alleen bij zwaardere belasting voordoet en bij dagelijks gebruik voor browsen, tekstverwerken en dergelijk niet merkbaar is.

Natuurlijk heeft Huawei moeten bezuinigen op bepaalde vlakken om de prijs zo laag te kunnen houden: de selectie aansluitingen is echt minimaal en een SD-kaartlezer, USB-C-poort en meerdere video-out ontbreken allemaal. Het beeldscherm paneel, hoewel redelijk helder, valt tekort qua kleurbereik en -helderheid.

De MateBook D is een solide multimedia notebook met indrukwekkende specificaties voor de gegeven adviesprijs. Prestaties zijn verbeterd in vergelijking met de voorganger, maar throttlen blijft helaas aanwezig.
