Kort testrapport HP ProBook x360 435 G7 laptop: AMD Ryzen blinkt ook uit in de business convertible

2-in-1 aangedreven door Renoir. Als de Ryzen 4000-serie al in gewone zakelijke laptops zit, waarom dan niet ook in convertibles? HP heeft daar waarschijnlijk aan gedacht toen ze de ProBook x360 435 G7 ontwikkelden. Het resultaat: Een convertible laptop die sneller is dan de concurrentie en die gemakkelijk beter presteert dan de duurdere HP EliteBooks.

Responstijd Scherm

De responstijden van het scherm tonen hoe snel het scherm in staat is om van één kleur naar de andere te veranderen. Trage responstijden kunnen aanleiding geven tot 'nabeelden' rond bewegende objecten of het scherm wazig maken (blur). Vooral spelers van snelle 3D-games hebben baat bij een scherm met snelle responstijden.

Screen Flickering / PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation)

Om de schermhelderheid te verlagen schakelen sommige laptops het backlight erg snel aan en uit. Dit gebeurt aan een dergelijk hoge frequentie dat het niet zichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. Als de frequentie te laag is kunnen personen met gevoelige ogen geïrriteerd geraken, hoofdpijn krijgen en zelfs flickering waarnemen.
Screen flickering / PWM niet waargenomen

Ter vergelijking: 51 % van alle geteste toestellen maakten geen gebruik van PWM om de schermhelderheid te verlagen. Als het wel werd gebruikt, werd een gemiddelde van 17581 (minimum: 5 - maximum: 2500000) Hz waargenomen.

Met de ProBook x360 435 G7 biedt HP iets wat Dell noch Lenovo in het zakelijke segment hebben: Een convertible laptop met een AMD Ryzen 4000 processor.

Dit alleen al is genoeg om de HP ProBook een koopadvies te geven, want qua prestaties is het duidelijk superieur aan zijn directe concurrent, de Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga. Dit geldt niet alleen voor de prestaties van de CPU, maar ook voor die van de GPU. Bovendien blijft HP, in tegenstelling tot Lenovo, RAM-slots gebruiken. Hierdoor kan het geheugen worden uitgebreid tot maximaal 64 GB. Hoewel dit resulteert in minder beschikbare ruimte voor de batterij, heeft de HP laptop ook een sterke prestatie in deze categorie dankzij het lage verbruik. Het beeld is vergelijkbaar wat betreft de warmteontwikkeling, die ondanks de goede prestaties binnen de perken wordt gehouden.

Zelfs als je de focus verschuift van de componenten naar de uiterlijke kenmerken, is de HP ProBook 435 x360 G7 nog steeds in hoge mate overtuigend: De behuizing is bijna volledig gemaakt van aluminium, wat zorgt voor een grote stabiliteit en een hoogwaardig gevoel. Het toetsenbord is geschikt voor frequent typen en het touchpad is vrijwel vlekkeloos.

De ProBook heeft natuurlijk ook zwakke punten. Hij is relatief groot en zwaar voor een 13,3-inch convertible, en de schermrand is vrij breed. Een pen wordt niet meegeleverd met de ProBook, en de optioneel verkrijgbare stylus kan ook niet in de behuizing worden opgeborgen. Wat betreft de poortconfiguratie vinden we dat er in ieder geval een tweede USB-C-poort moet worden ingebouwd, en ook Thunderbolt 3 ontbreekt. Beveiligingsfuncties zoals een mechanische sluiter van de webcam of een smartcardlezer ontbreken.
